Earlier this week, Apple introduced the new seventh-generation iPad Mini, including AI capabilities via Apple Intelligence. Today, the iPad Mini 2024 was spotted in the Geekbench database, offering a glimpse of its processor configuration.
Ready for Apple Intelligence
The listing Geekbench reveals that the iPad Mini 7, identified as iPad16.2 in code (as we predicted) with a motherboard J411APworks with the A17 Pro chip introduced last year on the iPhone 15 Pro. According to Geekbench, this variant is available in Wi-Fi and cellular versions. The A17 Pro SoC obtained scores of 2817 in single-core and 6982 in multi-core, more or less identical to those of the iPhone 15 Pro.
But when we compare the iPad Mini 7 with the iPad Mini 6, the gain is more than 30% in CPU, and the same in GPU with a score greater than 25,000 points, compared to around 19,500 for the old generation. Enough to play AAA games without problem!
THE system on chip (SoC) features a six-core CPU architecture, with a maximum clock speed of 3.78 GHz, divided into two groups of two cores and four cores. In addition, the benchmark confirms that the iPad Mini is equipped with 8 GB of RAM. This is the minimum amount of RAM to have access to Apple Intelligence.
To recall, when Apple first introduced the A17 Pro SoC with the iPhone 15 Pro series, it featured a six-core CPU and GPU. However, the iPad Mini 7 comes with a five-core GPU, indicating a slightly downgraded version of the chip. This reduction in power was noted yesterday; This is a clamping technique called “binning” which allows the use of processors with defects and/or the reuse of components in order to reduce costs. Apple is expected to release Apple Intelligence features alongside the iOS 18.1 update in the coming days. We are counting on October 28.
