On paper, Univer Note, an application offered for free on the App Store, is nothing to dream of. It is theoretically just a note-taking service, like many others.

But reality is sometimes misleading. Indeed, once the app is installed on iPhone, Internet users gain access to a catalog of films and series that is impressive to say the least. We thus find in good quality pirate version the latest content produced by Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and their rivals, but also the current cinema releases with Venom 3 in 4K!

The number 1 application on the App Store in France

It goes without saying that this offer is completely illegal. It logically attracted many Internet users who ended up spreading the word. Thanks to word of mouth, notably on TikTok, at ChatGPT.

The pirates behind this bypass of the App Store did not skimp on advertising, which probably allowed them to pocket some income through this activity. Moreover, as noted Releasethe service asks you for authorization to “track your activities in apps and on other companies’ websites”which allows more refined advertising targeting and potentially the resale of data to third parties.

This circumvention of App Store security is extremely rare, as the Cupertino company deploys significant resources to ensure the security of its store. For the moment, the Tech giant has not yet commented on this particular issue.

In March 2024, the apple brand explained however, having 500 experts who sift “every app submitted by developers around the world before it reaches users”. Each of them reviews an average of 265 applications per week.

Pirate services offered on the App Store

As a reminder, this is not the first time this has happened. Our colleagues from iPhon.fr reported last July that a pirate application called “Collect Cards: Store box” had just been removed from the App Store. The latter, as its name did not indicate, provided access to an illegal streaming platform which made it possible to view the latest productions from Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, or HBO Max.

The Cupertino company ended up discovering the existence of this application after 9to5mac published an article on the subject, “Collect Cards: Store box” was quickly removed from the App Store. Don’t hesitate go and reread this publication here.
