Retro game fans will be delighted: the excellent Delta emulator on iOS will soon support online multiplayer for Nintendo DS games. Enough to revive the nostalgia of wild games on Mario Kart DS!
The return of online on DS
Nintendo shut down the DS’s online services in 2014, but thanks to the work of Delta developer Riley Testut, it will once again be possible to compete with players from around the world on compatible DS games. The emulator will connect to third-party servers that recreate the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection of the past.
In concrete terms, Delta’s 10 million users will be able to play among themselves, but also with those using real DS connected to these unofficial servers. A technical feat that should delight fans of Nintendo’s two-screen portable.
Not for now
The feature will first be offered in beta to Delta’s Patreon subscribers, before a general release, the date of which is not yet known. Riley Testut specifies that all Nintendo WFC-compatible DS games will be supported, but not those from other consoles for the moment.
While you wait to challenge your friends on Mario Kart DS like in the good old days, you can always practice solo on Delta. The free emulator for iOS lets you enjoy hundreds of Nintendo classics in just a few clicks. With online in addition, it will never have lived up to its name so well!
