During the event Geeked Week Netflix’s latest release this week, we finally got more information about Monument Valley 3. Studio Ustwo Games says the highly anticipated sequel builds on its predecessors in a number of ways, including gameplay, art style, and story. But to make a big splash, there’s a new mechanic making its debut.
Additionally, several high-quality games are coming to the service.
Monument Valley 3 is coming to mobile
A thrilling new journey into a world of enchanting puzzles. Break through optical illusions to bring the people of a village together and lead them to their new home.
As explained in the initial announcement, the most notable change in Monument Valley 3 is likely the introduction of boat navigation. You’ll be able to steer the boat in almost any direction, which game director Jennifer Estaris says means “the game is no longer limited to geometric spaces.” In addition to the unfolding cubes that transport the new heroine, Noor, across different planes, Monument Valley 3 is largely based on the “deconstruction of what we know”. Definitely.
These innovations allow for new puzzles and visuals, as players navigate impossible architectural spaces inspired by the style of MC Escher. In keeping with this idea, Ustwo has changed the artistic style, adopting softer and more abstract forms. The result is a familiar universe, but evoking a vague memory. In addition, the soundtrack, performed by an orchestra of 18 musicians, promises to arouse emotions in players.
While the first game dealt with the theme of forgiveness and the sequel told a coming-of-age story, Monument Valley 3 focuses on themes of hope, unity, and resilience. Noor, an apprentice lighthouse keeper, is tasked with finding a new source of energy before the light disappears from the world forever.
Each of the three games Monument Valley is independent with its own story. This means you can dive right into Monument Valley 3 without having played the first two, although we can only recommend them (Monument Valley and Monument Valley 2).
Monument Valley 1 is now available to Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android, and its sequel, number 2, will be available on the platform on October 29. Monument Valley 3 will make its debut exclusively on mobile via Netflix on December 10.
More games coming soon
Netflix also revealed other new mobile gaming features during Geeked Week. Its multiplayer version of Battleshipwhich includes special weapons and ranked modes, will be available starting September 24. Subscribers will also have access to Civilization IV And Street Fighter IV CE on their mobile devices at no additional cost, with the Netflix version of the latter game supporting the cross-play between iOS and Android.
Additionally, Netflix has unveiled a new preview of Squid Game: Unleashedbefore its launch as a multiplayer game later this year. To conclude, a first look at Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Gamebased on the movies Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder, was presented. This cooperative action game, developed by Super Evil Megacorp (creators of Vainglory), will be released exclusively on Netflix in 2025.
