The Nintendo Switch, launched in 2017, is about to be renewed, with a model that seems to retain the basis of the best-selling hybrid console.
After almost seven years of good and loyal service, its performance is starting to suffer from the demands of modern games, confirmed by the slowdown in sales. Customers are now waiting for a Nintendo Switch 2 and the one that should arrive in 2025 according to the Japanese manufacturer, has just been revealed in a unique leak.
Finally a look at the Nintendo Switch 2025
Several images give us a very precise overview of this future Nintendo Switch 2with impressive features that could make it a new bestseller. Photos claiming to show prototypes from a factory were shared on a Chinese social network, then on Reddit. They reveal a console equipped with an 8-inch screen, magnetic Joy-Con controllers, as well as USB-C ports located on both the top and bottom of the device. While these images have not been verified, they suggest a logical update to the current design.
According to multiple sources, also confirmed by this leak, the Nintendo Switch 2 could feature 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and would supportHDMI 2.1which would provide better image quality. There is also talk of integrating ray-tracing and technology DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), an innovation that uses artificial intelligence to increase graphics resolution while reducing energy consumption (as on the PS5 Pro). In addition, the storage UFS 3.1 would ensure high transfer speeds, which would contribute to reduced loading times and improved gameplay fluidity.
In terms of power, the new Switch 2 could surpass the PlayStation 4 and get closer to the performance of the PlayStation 5. At Gamescom 2023, the console is said to have made a strong impression, including displaying a modified version of The Legend of Zelda in 4K at 60 frames per second, demonstrating its graphical capabilities.
In addition to these power gains, the Switch 2 would offer practical improvements such as the presence of two USB-C portsa ventilation system for better cooling, and a wide choice of storage configurations up to 512 GB. Several variants of the console are being considered, including a model with a cartridge reader allowing the backwards compatibilityand a 100% digital version at a more affordable price. Let’s hope for a price below 300 euros for this variant.
Nintendo is also reportedly working on improved Joy-Cons, featuring magnetic attachments for better grip and reduced stickiness. drifta problem often criticized in current models. With these changes, the Switch 2 could well consolidate Nintendo’s position as the leader in the portable console market.
Although Nintendo has not yet made anything official, many observers expect an announcement before the company’s fiscal year closes in March 2025, marking a slight delay compared to initial forecasts which announced a release at the end of 2024. The manufacturer had nevertheless indicated that it was preparing the launch of new hardware at the end of the current fiscal year.
Good news for gamers, a little less so for Apple, which still can’t get Nintendo to develop real games. Titles like Super Mario Run or Mario Kart Tour have had mixed success, due to simplified gameplay.
