At Microsoft, on the gaming side, this end of 2024 will be marked by the launch of a certain Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, planned for Xbox and PC, before a launch in 2025 on PlayStation 5. But the American giant is announcing today today a novelty for players, with always this desire to make video games easy to access and open to all. With this in mind, Microsoft today allows players to stream a selection of games that they already own… but without Xbox.

Xbox unveils its new cloud gaming… the same day as Sony and its PS Portal

It was yesterday, Sony deployed a new update dedicated to its PlayStation Portal. Since its launch last year, this remote play device has been inseparable from a PS5. But with this new update, the situation is turned upside down by the arrival of cloud gaming, allowing you to play on PS Portal, without the need for any paired PS5.

At Microsoft, we are following suit with this new Xbox Cloud Gaming function, which allows you to play games that you have purchased, but via connected televisions and browsers, on compatible devices such as smartphones, PCs and tablets. “And this is just the beginning: next year, this feature will arrive on Xbox consoles and the Xbox app for Windows” explains Microsoft.

Currently, 50 games are affected by this feature, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Dragon Quest HD-2D Remake, Star Wars Outlaws, Stray… Concretely, if you have purchased one of the titles concerned, you can now play it from a Smart TV or smartphone.

It is therefore a different alternative to that already offered via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which allows you to take advantage of Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta) to play the best titles from the Xbox Game Pass catalog on various devices. Here, we are talking about the games that the player has in their digital library, which are not necessarily included in the Game Pass catalog.

How does it work?

From a PC, tablet or smartphone, simply use a compatible browser such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Apple Safari. Then, you must:

  • Go to xbox.com/play
  • Sign in with your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate account
  • Locate the section “ Resume your game » to see the titles playable with Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta).
  • Connect a compatible controller, such as the Xbox Wireless Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4. On PC, some games also support keyboard and mouse.
  • Start playing!

On a Samsung Smart TV or from a Fire TV device, simply use the Xbox application already available. Note that only Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can take advantage of this new cloud gaming feature.
