WhatsApp just launched a new feature just a few hours ago that aims to make sharing voice messages more comfortable and, above all, private, especially for those who don’t know they can listen to voice memos by holding your iPhone to your earwithout the need for half the world to find out who you hooked up with over the weekend.
We are talking, as we indicated in the headline, about the transcriptions of voice messages both in Android as in iOS which allows users to see a text transcription of the voice message received from any of the contacts you correspond with through the messaging app, a function that we find quite useful when we cannot hear something in a certain time, such as in a noisy environment or in a meeting.
The news has been announced by WhatsApp on its blog and it comes after a series of changes that have been especially welcomed by iPhone users, such as the new widget for the home screen of its iOS application.
WhatsApp voice message transcriptions
As we say, in a publication from your blog, WhatsApp highlighted that the voicemail transcripts They are generated on the device and no one else can listen to or read the content of the transcriptions, affecting the user’s privacy. That is, voice messages continue to be protected by the end-to-end encryption of the instant messaging platform, even though they are converted to text.
Of course, it is necessary to activate the function before using it. As? this way:
- Open WhatsApp Settings
- Enter the Chats menu
- Turn voicemail transcriptions on or off
- Select the desired language.

Once activated, a transcription will automatically appear below the voice message in the selected language. According to the company, only the recipient will be able to see a transcript of the voice message and not the sender.

- Press and hold the voice message.
- Now select Transcribe.
- Tap the icon that will appear next to the audio note to reveal the transcript.
