One of the best ways to test everything that GPT-4, the new OpenAI language model, is capable of is through ChatGPT, but this powerful new AI will not only be available in the aforementioned chatbots. The company led by Sam Altman has highlighted that GPT-4 will also be integrated into different applications with the aim of enhancing some functions or even for them to include new features.
The integration of GPT-4 into third-party applications is possible, in part, thanks to the API that OpenAI announced a few weeks ago. This allows developers and companies to include the most important AI functions in their products., which now, with the new model, go much further than being able to ask a short question to receive an answer. GPT-4, in fact, is now multimodal. That is, it can not only recognize text, but also images, make translations, and more.
Although OpenAI states on its website that the GPT-4 API will be available soon, since there are a number of applications confirmed that will integrate the company’s new AI. They are the following.
Bing already has GPT-4
Bing is one of the services already powered by GPT-4, as Yusuf Mehdi, Director of Search and Devices at Microsoft, recently confirmed. The search engine, precisely, makes use of a personalized version of the new AI, although with some limitations.
For example, image recognition, one of the main novelties of GPT-4, is not yet available. Neither is the possibility of analyzing texts of up to 25,000 words. Mehdi, yes, affirms that “as OpenAI makes updates to GPT-4 and later, Bing benefits from those improvements”
Duolingo bets on two new features powered by GPT-4
One of the most popular apps that will integrate GPT-4 to bet on AI-powered features, is Duolingothe platform par excellence to learn new languages.
In this case, and as confirmed by OpenAI, Duolingo will use GPT-4 for two features that will allow users converse and learn the language with a chatbot in the same way as if they were conversing with a native teacher. It is something that although the app already allowed previously, it was not so intuitive for the student, because, without the AI features, the chatbot was not capable of understanding all the contexts.
“Duolingo needed was the ability to converse with students in niche contexts and ‘immersively’, to have a flowing conversation about basketball or the happiness of reaching the top of a mountain. GPT-4 has learned from enough public data to create a flexible roundtrip for the learner.”
The two functions powered by GPT-4 are: role play, to converse and learn grammar; and Explain My Answerto ask questions or receive feedback on the lessons.
Be My Eyes will use the new AI of OpenAI for more than just describing an image
Be My Eyes, is an application for people with visual disabilities. The platform, in particular, is capable of describing what appears in an image and will make use of GPT-4 to go one step further. The new AI, in fact, will not only be able to allow the app to offer a much more human description of the object that the camera has captured, but also different recommendations.
For example, if a blind person focuses into a refrigerator, Be My Eyes, powered by GPT-4, can recognize food and offer the user possible recipes. Another practical use case; By focusing on different garments, GPT-4 could say which are the best combinations due to their tonality or texture.
Stripe will use GPT to solve problems that humans cannot solve
Stripe, a platform that serves as a payment infrastructure for businesses and applications, will also use GPT-4. In this case, for a purpose other than Duolingo. Striple, specifically, will integrate the AI of OpenAI with the aim of solve problems that the human, either cannot solve, or cannot solve them in such a precise way.
For example, Stripe will use GPT-4 to offer stechnical support to users. Also to better “understand” the businesses that bet on this payment platform and to be able to generate a more complete summary about them. GPT-4 will also be used to detect fraud on those community platforms, such as the company’s Discord server.
Other apps that will use GPT-4
Besides Duolingo, Striple, and Be My Eyes, there are other apps and platforms that will also use GPT-4 to power some of their features or add new features. Between them, Khan Academyan app for free education, which will use AI to boost the capabilities of a virtual teacher. Morgan Stanley, wealth management platform, will use GPT-4 to be more efficient and improve the search for information from its clients. The Government of Iceland, on the other hand, will use AI for initiatives that allow the preservation of its language.
These apps and services will also implement functions powered by GPT-4, although there are no details on this at the moment.
