Science and scientists in fiction sometimes they amaze us as much as real life science does with their revolutionary innovations and inventions and the movies have given us some of the most brilliant and craziest inventions and ideas we could ever hope to see.
And it is that, really, scientific arguments in the world of cinema, as it should be, on the other hand, exceed the very limits of realitybringing us all kinds of body modifications, genetics or robotics unimaginable in reality.
The science labs here open up a world of narrative possibilities, without any mention of ethical issues. Since we can’t see it in reality, why not in fiction?
For this reason and because in this list there are really films mythical, we want to leave you with 7 of them that delve into this scientific theme although the ideas they deal with are very crazy.
7 movies with very crazy scientific theses that do not hold up in any way:
Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The great gothic film director Tim Burton has left us all with one of the most legendary films in his entire repertoire. In a castle on top of a hill lives an inventor’s greatest creation: Edward, a nearly complete person.
The creator died before he could finish it off at Edward’s hands; instead, he is left with metal scissors for hands. Since then he has lived alone, until a woman named Peg discovers him and takes him into her house. At first everyone will welcome you to the community, but soon things start to get worse.
Certainly one of those precious films that touches the depths of your heart. You can watch it on Disney+.
The Skin I Live In (2011)

The great Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar brought to this film one of his favorite actors, Antonio Banderas, in the role of a crazy surgeon, Dr. Ledgard.
In honor of his late wife who died in a burning car accident, the scientist is trying to synthesize the perfect skin that can withstand burns, cuts or any other type of damage. To do this, he uses a human subject, a young woman.
As usual in Almodóvar’s filmography, there are melodramatic plot twists, many of which reveal just how macabre this film really is. You can watch it on Netflix.
Flubber and the Nutty Professor (1997)

Professor Philip Brainard (Robin Williams) is a genius, inventor and scientist. But he’s also hopelessly chaotic and under a lot of pressure. He desperately needs to come up with an innovative and lucrative invention if he wants to prevent his university from being shut down.
This will not be all because he will also have to face his enemy, Wilson Croft, who is not only trying to steal his ideas, but also his fiancée Sara.
Then something incredible will happen. One of Philip’s experiments produces a mysterious green substance. It has incredible elastic qualities and is a source of enormous energy, but it also has a mind of its own. Philip’s robot assistant, Weebo, describes it as flying rubber, which inspires Philip to name his invention “Flubber”.
Philip must now learn to control Flubber and protect him from falling into the wrong hands. You can watch it on Disney+.
Honey I Shrunk the Kids (1989)

Let’s go with something more comical but that, of course, the scientific basis falls under its own weight, but hey, we forgive you. Played by Rick Moranis on the sci-fi comedy, this scientist often spends his time science overlooked, as the story arc Follow the adventures of the children after they are shrunk.
However, the fact remains that Wayne is a category inventor and has actually invented an amazing device that can shrink and restore objects to their original sizes.
Wayne is definitely a man with a very bright mind and one of the best scientists we will see on the big screen, even if he accidentally gets into some trouble or other. He is available on Disney+.
The Human Centipede: First Sequence (2010)

We are leaving with a rather murky scientific film that we do not recommend seeing unless you have a stomach from another planet. This movie is based on extreme body horror and on the explicit representations of what an evil scientist and totally out of his mind is capable of.
As Dr. Heiter gets closer to making his dream of creating a human centipede come true (you can already imagine how he connects people with others), the girls he has previously captured for it are going to be subjected to all kinds of fancy things.
Just to give you an idea, This scientist became famous after managing to separate two conjoined twins. After decades of crazy surgeries, he’s now interested in doing the exact opposite. Prepare your stomach if you want to give it a try. Of course, this is one of the craziest movies ever made.
Note that it has three parts, each one worse, and uniting more and more people. “Sadly” is currently not available on any platform.
Jurassic Park (Jurassic Park) (1993)

If we want to talk about crazy science, without a doubt, despite the majesty of the movies, we cannot leave Jurassic Park aside. We are going to focus on the first of them all, the one that opened the ban on a whole series of films that for the history of cinema is left over.
In this, great advances in scientific technology have allowed a tycoon to create an island full of living dinosaurs. John Hammond, one of our leads, has invited four people, along with his two grandchildren, to join him in Jurassic Park and visit him.
However, a park employee will try to steal dinosaur embryos, causing critical security systems to shut down and the park becomes a race for survival with dinosaurs roaming the area freely. It is available on Prime Video.
Metropolis (1927)

Perhaps we are going too far back in time, but well, it doesn’t hurt to put films for all tastes and, we cannot deny either (although each one will have a different opinion), that Metropolis is the German film considered an incomparable work of science fiction and one of the greatest exponents of German expressionism in cinema.
In this case, we will find ourselves with one of the craziest brains that has ever appeared in a fictional film. And it is that, After the death of his beloved, our “scientist” builds a robot to replace her.
The problem comes when the government, looking for a way to stop an uprising among the citizens, asks Rotwang to turn his robot into a traitor to the people’s cause. It is available on Filmin.
