Scientists have been surprised after the publication of a new study in which it is revealed that, a mysterious force which comes from the Earth, is generating water on the Moon. The discovery could lead to considerable progress in lunar exploration and the progress that humanity is making in its conquest.
Scientist Shuai Li has published this new study from the University of Hawaii, where he brings together a series of evidence that has turned some of the main knowledge about the existence of water on the Moon.
The mystery of lunar water
We already knew that there was ice on the Moon. But now the question is that a new reason is discovered, at the hands of a mysterious force, that could be causing its appearance. And that is very important, since it opens up a series of possibilities and transcendent changes in regards to the knowledge we have of the Moon and everything that could be done there.
The most interesting thing is that, as the study has published, this mysterious force comes from Earth, which is no doubt a great point of interest. And it’s not that someone is shooting a laser at the Moon, but that a scientific process occurs through which water appears. All the responsibility for this lies with electrons from our planet and the Sun.
What’s going on?
The crucial element of this research is the Earth’s magnetosphere. In its movement, the Moon enters and leaves it and, when it does so, it comes into contact with tides of electrons. During this contact it also hits supercharged ions that have been gathered coming from the earth’s atmosphere and the Sun. More precisely, the magnetosphere is created at the moment when our planet’s magnetic field blocks the solar winds that arrive from the sun. Its contact with the Moon is well known, although until now this new explanation had not been investigated.
Previously, several investigations had been carried out in this regard and the role of ions was discussed, but the new study places electrons in the spotlight. This would explain why water also forms when the Moon is protected from exposure to solar winds and the ions. It would be a moment in which that same role would be performed by electrons. For Li, as he reflects in the study, it is something he sees quite clearly. He also talks about how there could be other possibilities and complementary explanations regarding the processes taking place in the magnetosphere.
In the case he details, the electrons interact with the surface of the Moon, releasing the hydrogen that was blocked and that makes water appear. The idea that is published in the study has been liked and is quickly going around the world. Scientists believe that it is a good new starting point on which to continue with the studies of the Moon and, above all, the history of the presence of water. Above all, they seek to know how water was initially produced, since this could greatly increase the possibilities of converting the lunar surface into a possible framework for the expansion of humanity.
At the end of the day, we must not forget that one of the objectives of space agencies and a multitude of private companies is to ensure that the Moon provides people with a great capacity so that it is possible to colonize it. Li says that he has always thought that the existence of the Moon and its current characteristics It has much more relationship with the Earth than you could imagine. With his study he continues to explore this type of ideas and provides a document that will surely end up being highly analyzed by other scientists.
