It’s been a month and a half since the Netflix war with shared accounts officially began in Spain. The platform allows you to continue doing so, although configuring extra payment profiles. With the idea that no one outside of the one that has been configured as “main home” can view contentthe platform has now started to send new notices.
They anticipate something that we already really knew, and that is that there will be room to view content if we are traveling temporarily. However, they limit the reproduction of content in these cases to two weeks.
A code that gives access… but only for 14 days
In the previous image you can see the aforementioned notice that we warned that it is beginning to appear in those who continue to share account with the “traditional” method. That is, not with the new extra payment profiles, but using a single account and password identical to that of the main home.
As you can see, Netflix offers the possibility of use a code that will allow use away from home for two weeks. This code will be received by SMS or email by the owner of the account and, after entering it, that time will begin. The question is what will happen next.
For now Netflix leaves too many questions unresolved. Logic tells us that if they detect that the account is still being used away from home after using that temporary code, they could block access. At any given time, we may even fear that there may be a temporary or permanent blocking of the Netflix account. However, there is no evidence to support it and on Netflix they have not said that this mouth is mine either.
Things being like this, what is clear is that the platform is knowing how to solve the teething problems who proposed this strategy and are already detecting those improper connections. At least a part of them. It will not therefore be strange that if you are using an account away from home (whether yours or someone else’s) this notice may appear. As you can imagine, it can appear not only on Android TV, but also on any other platform, including mobile phones.
If the two extra weeks that they offer for possible trips are insufficient, Netflix offers another alternative, which is to set a new parent location. In this case, the new location will be considered the “main home”, but will leave the old one as an external connection, so in the end they will still prevent it from being used as a shared account.
