Batman is one of the most iconic characters we’ve ever seen on the big screen, but he also has some of the most beloved game series by fans, and the Arkham trilogy has managed to become one of those series that are practically a cult. Now we might see a new game of Batman over the next few years, and we’re not referring to the new VR title they’re going to release, but rather to a title that would take place in the universe of this superhero created by Matt Reeves, the director of the last film that came out of this character.
More and more companies are joining in the creation of new titles based on characters that have not had the prominence they deserve for a while, and the latest games that have been released within the Batman universe have not given the results we could hope for. Suicide Squad and Gotham Knights are the last two titles in which we have been able to see the DC universe, and this new information fits with the rumors we saw a few months ago about how James Gunn claimed that we would see more games based on the Arkham universe.
Rumors suggest we could see a new Batman game
There are a lot of superhero games out there, but there are few that have really ended up becoming some of the most important ones that we can find, and it is clear that the trilogy of Arkham games are the ones that we have to mention in this case. With the arrival of the first game in 2009, many fans were shocked to see such an impressive game as this one. Arkham Asylum during its launch, which managed to place Batman as one of the best protagonists of a game during this year, which led to his GOTY nomination.
With the two subsequent titles, Arkham City and Arkham Knight, things only got better. Between new mechanics, better graphics, and an extremely entertaining story, they have managed to become one of the best trilogies we can currently find. Now, it is likely that we will see this superhero return with a different setting, and it could come from the universe that Matt Reeves created in 2022 for the movie “The Batman.”
This comes from a rumor (so as you know, take it with a grain of salt) that AT&T tried to sell Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for $4 billion in 2020, but they felt it was too valuable to sell. When David Zaslav was promoted to president of Warner Bros. Discovery, many advised him to kill the video game division.
But Zaslav still sees the gaming unit as a necessary commodity, largely because WBD’s various divisions are beginning to collaborate more closely on various projects like the upcoming HBO Penguin series along with a new game related to this character, both based on the universe of the film Batman of 2022.
This would imply that we could see a new title that could have the Penguin himself as the protagonist (although it would be more of a strategy title as we can imagine), or that the new game that takes up the story of Batman could be centered on his fight with this iconic villain.
