Telegram is one of the most used instant messaging services in the world, of course, behind WhatsApp. Normally, this app brings us good news in the form of updates that add new features and improvements, but it will not always be like this.
Today presents a pretty serious bug which multiple users have reported on Reddit for years. Specifically, the problem appears when a user accesses their list of saved messages. And we say that the problem appears but what does not appear are all your messages accumulated over the years.
Telegram loses your saved messages, sometimes
Contrary to what we might think, this error has not only occurred in Internet users, but also we have been able to verify it in a close case. Indeed, some users (we did not find a common criterion) are surprised when they see how the “conversation” of saved messages does not contain anything, that is, they have lost all the chats that we had inserted.

The first responses in the Reddit thread point to an invader in the affected person’s account, an intruder who would have consciously deleted their messages. Therefore, you always have to maintain maximum security when we share sensitive information and it is convenient to know how to act when a Telegram account is hacked.
Although this possibility can occur, there is also the option that saved messages are deleted on their own and without any interaction, both your own and others. Unfortunately, we have found that can happen.
We have contacted Telegram to find out the official response as well as the real reason, since the failure is serious, but also strange. Reasons like this push users to make requests for future updates to the messaging app, to make it more difficult to miss important messages.
We will update this article as soon as we have a official statement or some type of information relevant to the case. Anyway, it seems to be a bug somewhat random that causes certain users to lose the information they store in this section of the app. And it’s been going on for a while.
Some tips to avoid it… and recover them
If you’ve run to check your chat for saved messages and they’re still there, you’re in luck. In the same way, it is convenient to follow a few tips in case the day came when this happened in your personal account.
To start, it never hurts save these types of messages in other locations, either in apps to take notes, or simply in another messaging app like WhatsApp that already allows you to send messages to yourself and saves some trick. Another recommendation that may sound very obvious is not to save items that we do not want to lose in Telegram.
There are safer and more reliable ways to save information that we need to retrieve later. Another example, use a password manager if we used this section for it. We cannot forget either Backupsthat get us out of more than one bind, and that is that you can save your Telegram messages on the computer.
A little trick that can give us joy if this bug has affected us, is check our saved messages from another device. As we know, Telegram is multi-device so if we have previously logged in on a computer or tablet, there is still hope. Before entering Telegram in this other location, disable the connection (so that the chats are not refreshed) and check if your messages are still there.
At the moment, this is all we can do about such a problem. The weird error keeps happening but we hope it’s matter of time before a solution arrives.
