This past dawnin Spain) the 2023 Oscars award ceremony was held live, the 95th in its entire history. Last year, one of the Apple TV+ productions won nothing more and nothing less than three Academy Awards with CODAincluding best picture – making history on streaming services.
This year, another of the creations of the Cupertino platform wins an award: the best fiction short film is for one of the animated movies on Apple TV+: “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse,” based on the bestselling book of the same title by celebrated author Charlie Mackesy. The film brings Mackesy’s quirky illustrations to life with completely hand-drawn animation.
A story of optimism, produced by Jony Ive
The short tells an apa story for all ages, about the special friendship of a boy, a mole, a fox and a horse who travel together to the boy’s home. the movie is produced by Jonay Ive himself and Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson (for “Three billboards on the outskirts”). The original score is by composer Isobel Waller-Bridge and is performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and conducted by Geoff Alexander.
Created with exquisite traditional animation, the film is a modern story, with values and optimism for the whole family.
“We are so proud of Charlie and the brilliant team that brought El Niño, El Topo, El Zorro and El Caballo to the screen and we sincerely thank the Academy for the recognition tonight.”, declared last night zack vanamburgdirector of Apple Worldwide Video. “This powerful story has deeply touched audiences around the world and has shown that no matter how old you are or where you live, it is never too late to spread more compassion, empathy and kindness into our daily lives. Congratulations to everyone involved, including our teams around the world. We’re all celebrating tonight.”.
The short film was released last Christmas and can now be enjoyed on Apple TV+, and although you don’t usually watch this type of film, I recommend that you give this Mackesy short a chance: it’s a breath of fresh air in this type of film at the same time. having a more traditional animation that will surely transport many of you to other times: but with a modern history, with values and optimism – How much is needed right now.
