The Chromebook operating system, ChromeOS, continues to grow, with the arrival of a feature that has been found on Windows for decades: the recycle bin.

Your files will no longer be permanently deleted from your Chromebook

Previously, when deleting a file, it was an irreversible action. ChromeOS would of course indicate this by displaying a window asking the user ” Are you sure you want to delete [fichier] “. You could click on To delete » to continue, or go back by clicking on « to cancel “.

On the ChromeOS news page, we learn of the arrival of the ” Basket in the operating system’s Files app. When you delete an item, it is now transferred to this trash ” instead of being permanently deleted from your Chromebook “.

This recycle bin is emptied automatically every 30 days, to prevent these deleted files from taking up too much space. A period during which you can restore said files. We can absolutely not wait for this deadline, since emptying the trash at any time is possible. You can access this section of the file manager app from its sidebar.

Also, the delete confirmation window disappears, as it is no longer needed. However, we now have a small notification indicating that the file in question has been deleted. Two buttons are available: to cancel “, to instantly restore the file, or ” Dismiss to clear this notification.

This ChromeOS 108 feature is rolling out as a stable release, according to 9to5Google. A trash can that is welcome on this OS which is not as suitable for office use as its macOS or Windows competitors. Google continues regular updates to ChromeOS and the user experience of its native apps. This is the case of Chrome, since the browser will take advantage of a price tracker to save some money.

Google has also recently introduced Chromebooks gaming “, which promise to be able to play video games thanks to cloud gaming services.
