With just a few weeks, or even days, to go before the iPhone 16 is unveiled, rumors are becoming a daily occurrence. Like every year, the next iPhone will no longer hold any secrets for us at the time of Apple’s keynote. The latest leak concerns the box of the iPhone 16 Pro.
As some sources have already reported, Apple plans to manufacture this year’s Pro models in India for the first time, as part of its strategy to reduce its dependence on China.
Indian iPhone 16 Pros
A photo shared by a leaker known as “OvO” on the Chinese social network Weibo shows the label sealing the iPhone 16 Pro box. In addition to the product name, the label also says “Assembled in India,” which would be a first for a Pro model. While it is impossible to verify the authenticity of the image, it is ultimately just a confirmation of the many rumors on the subject.
Last month, MoneyControl reported that Apple would partner with Foxconn to assemble the new iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in India. More recently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman corroborated the report, saying that other partners like Pegatron and Tata Group would also contribute to the assembly process in the country.
Last year, Apple began assembling the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in India at the same time as in China, marking another first for the country. By assembling iPhones locally, Apple not only benefits from tax incentives but also reduces its reliance on China for production and distribution. The company also has assembly sites in Vietnam and Brazil.
We will soon see if “OvO” is telling the truth, he who does not yet have an established history but who accumulates leaks on the iPhone 16. He had notably announced the “rose gold” color option.
iPhone 16 Keynote
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 in early September, along with the three other variants: Plus, Pro, and Pro Max. The new models are expected to feature an upgraded A18 chip that supports exclusive AI features, as well as larger displays for the Pro versions. The new features will be pretty slim, with Apple saving the best for the iPhone 17, including a very thin iPhone 17 Air (or Slim) and Face ID under the display.
Additionally, Apple will likely launch the Apple Watch X and AirPods 4 during a keynote expected on September 4 or 10.
