The biggest differences we can currently find between Intel and AMD is how their processors perform in games, since it is the most demanding task there is so far, and in which AMD has really been standing out for a long time due to its 3D V-Cache variants, and now, we can see if this is really true or if on the contrary this processor is overestimated.
Is the AMD 7800X3D as good as they say?
To really know if a processor is good, we obviously have to compare it against its main competitor, in this case we can see that the Ryzen 7 7800x3D It should be an alternative to Intel’s 14th generation i7 processors, but the reality is very different, as it competes directly with Intel’s most powerful processor. And the truth is, the performance that is able to offer the 7800x3D beats In most cases, the i9-14900Kwhich leaves Intel in a pretty bad place considering it’s not really competing with its equivalent.
AMD’s processor is capable of delivering an overall average of over 9 FPS in the titles in which it performs better than Intel; out of 21 titles in which it has been tested, it offered better results in 14 of them, also having a tie in one and being surpassed in only 6 games, with an average of 7 more FPS. Although this actually comes from a test carried out at 1080p, in other cases in which we can see the use of 2K and 4K resolutions, the difference is much smaller, but it still gives the AMD processor the win.
This implies that, obviously, in almost all aspects of performance, the Ryzen 7 7800x3D compared to the i9-14900K, but what really matters is not only the performance, so we will see if it is able to surpass it in other aspects as well.
Not only does it win in performance, but also in price
Another thing that we must be clear about when comparing these two processors, in addition to performance, is the price. We are really talking about a processor, such as AMD’s, which we can find around €370-430 with a maximum price of €549, while Intel’s is usually between €600-650.
This just goes to show that it not only offers better performance than a version considered superior, but also makes it much more affordable to get one of them, in the end the difference is €100 if we only count the recommended retail price or €200 if we see how the price of the 7800x3D has dropped in recent months.
And this makes it quite clear that if we want to opt for one of these two processors, we should directly go for the one offered by AMD, since in addition to offering similar power, which sometimes exceeds the i9-14900K, it is also much cheaper, being a more affordable solution.
Consumption, one of Intel’s biggest problems
Among all the problems we can find with Intel, there is not only the fact that its processor offers a worse performance; nor the fact that it loses a competition against a version that it really should not compete against; nor even the fact that it is more expensive than the CPU that surpasses it in many aspects. And the big problem that this processor represents is its consumption, being the processor that consumes the most on average compared to all those that we can currently find on the market.
This would not be a problem if it really offered adequate power for its consumption, but we are seeing that this is not the case, which means that we can definitively say that the 7800x3D is one of the best processors we can find for gamingif not to say directly, that it is the best there is for this use.
