When a company launches a new product on the market, it continues to manufacture the previous one for a while so that users have more options when purchasing its products. However, there comes a time when, for different reasons (economic, performance, sales, among others), it is not worth continuing production.
At the beginning of the year NVIDIA stopped manufacturing the last model of the GTX range. A few days ago, it announced that the RTX 3060 had also reached the end of its manufacturing cycle. In both cases, this does not mean that the manufacturer has completely forgotten about it, as it will continue to update the product for years to come.
Now it is the turn of the graphics and processor manufacturer AMD, who, according to the Chinese media BoardChannel, has announced that it is stopping manufacturing the cheapest graphics cards in its catalog, specifies the RX 6600 seriesrange composed of three models:
- RX 6600
- RX 6600 XT
- RX 6650 XT
AMD stops manufacturing the RX 6600 Series
According to the same media, with this decision, AMD wants to boost sales of the RX 6700 series, a series that is not affected by this move. The RX 6600 family will be replaced in sales channels by the RX 6750 GREmodel with 10 GB of video memory while the RX 7600 series will cover the upper rung.
For now, the three models of the RX 6600 series will remain available on the market until they run out of stock. It is possible that some stores will take advantage of this to get rid of stock and make an interesting offer, so if you have been wanting to upgrade your old graphics card for a while and the RX 6600 series based on RDNA 2 and Navi 23 meets your needs, you should not miss the opportunity.
AMD’s plans only involve stopping the production of the RX 6600 Series, as for the moment it will continue with the production of the RX 6500 XT until the end of the year. At that time, the company will evaluate whether it is worth continuing to manufacture it based on the sales it has, although with the planned launch of the RX 7400 and RX 7300 It will most likely follow the same path as the previous ones.
Through the AMD website, this manufacturer only allows the purchase of the RX 7900 XT, RX 7900 XTX, RX 7800 TX and RX 7600 RX models, the most modern graphics cards that this manufacturer has launched on the market and where the RX 6600 series that was launched on the market in 2021 has no place.
