One of the big new things that has been launched this year are the AMD 9000 series processors, CPUs that seek to offer extremely high performance along with a series of general improvements in all possible aspects that we can find in this component. One of these improvements that the company had indicated was the fact that they have a much lower power consumption than we could expect for the performance they offer, but now, the company could end up increasing the price. TDP of some of the Ryzen 9000.
We often see companies trying to offer a series of components that can be better in many aspects, and AMD is one of those that has easily managed to exceed the expectations of many users due to the large number of improvements they implement with each generation. Although it is also true that some of the moves made by the company can be a little strange, as at first they can seem quite contradictory.
Ryzen 5 and 7 9000 series could have higher TDP than current ones
There are many times when we see how a company ends up changing a series of aspects of its products through updates, and AMD could be planning to launch a new patch that would completely change the operation of two of the new processors they have launched. In this case, we are talking about the models Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700Xwhich we could consider as the mid-high range offered by the 9000 series of said components and which currently offer a TDP of 65 W.
A few weeks ago we saw how there were certain rumors that indicated that these new processors would have an increase in this feature that would practically double the number of W that it supports, since they indicated that this change could reach 120 W. This, as we can imagine, is something that was not too realistic, but now it is likely that we will end up seeing a change in the TDP, although it is not as big as the previous one we mentioned.
The company is testing ways to further improve the performance of these two processors, and one of them could involve increasing the TDP through the next AGESA 1.2.0.1A patch that they plan to release and that would already be in a testing period to check how it works. In general, the change is quite large, since as we have mentioned before, currently the processors Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 incorporate a TDP of 65 Wbut it is possible that with this patch it will end up increasing to 105 W.
As you can imagine, AMD hasn’t confirmed that this will be the case yet, which obviously means that we have to take this information with a grain of salt, since it’s possible that this update won’t end up making it to future BIOS patches. But it’s true that if it does, we could see a fairly large performance improvement, although it would also mean that they would return to having a consumption similar to that offered by other models, which would be a rather strange change knowing that they had already managed to reduce this to a large extent.
