One of the great fears that we can have today in relation to artificial intelligence lies in the possibility that our jobs will be taken away from us. And it seems that this is something that it will be able to be fulfilled perfectly in the field of development as a new research study has concluded (although with limitations).
Their conclusions are expensive: AI can run a software company with minimal human intervention. This is how the researchers from Brown University finish the study where they have verified whether the ChatGPT model 3.5 was capable of develop software without prior training. And the tests have gone too well.

ChatGPT can run a successful development company
In the experiment they have created a development company called ChatDev and divided it into four parts as if it were a real project. These parts are design, coding, testing and coding. With this basis, the researchers have assigned AIs different specific functions for each of the positions they had designed. But always with the obligation of having to report what they did.
When the robots were assigned to different specific areas of the virtual company, the work began. Some worked together on coding and others on design. But the important thing is that there was communication between AIs via chat to carry out the project. And the best of all is that human intervention was minimal, except to introduce the type of language that should be used and little else.
From here on, the first project they faced was to create a board game called Gomoku, although in Spain it is better known as ‘five in a row’. From that moment on, the AIs begin to communicate with each other generating messages where they defend their decisions such as the choice of Python as a programming language for its ‘simplicity and readability’.
The end result was that AI is capable of completing the software creation process. in only seven minutes, as well as with a cost of around one euro. But in addition to generating it, it has also been able to detect vulnerabilities and correct them with the final delivery.
But something to highlight without a doubt is that of all the projects that were requested, 86.66% were generated without errors. This is a really high percentage, with a production time and cost that is undoubtedly very attractive for any company. In this way we can see that an AI like ChatGPT can perfectly perform a specific job function, and direct an entire company (even if it is fictitious).
And although there are limitations in AIs or mistakes they make, it does not mean that they become a very important support tool for all developers in the world. What is clear is that AI is here to stay and that its capabilities can undoubtedly become extraordinary.
