This information, advanced today by Vozpopulireveals that the aforementioned association has been since last August analyzing the data protection policies that Google offers when registering a new account. The problem would come from the quick configuration that Google offers and the little information on data that it provides.
Google account quick setup “is unclear”
If you have created a Google account recently or are doing it right now, you will notice that the company offers two types of account settings in terms of data processing. The most complete (and slow) offers all the information to the user so that they have to accept each section one by one. In quick settings, all are automatically checked.
As explained in Vozpópuli, the aforementioned user association was on August 25 and 26 opening a new Google account in order to analyze in detail the ways in which the company requests consent to access user data. After that, concluded that Google is not at all clear in this issue.
“In this quick procedure, as we can see, all the permissions for data processing for purposes other than managing an email account appear pre-marked by default. This option is also provided with expressions such as: “faster searches”, “personalized experience”, “greater control over the ads you see”, “adapted to your preferences”.”
According to what the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), fast data processing set-up can be offered like the one offered by Google, but always respecting the principles of data protection. According to ASUFIN, the technology does not comply with it.
In fact, from the association they go further stating that Google creates this confusing mechanism “on purpose”. They explain that the company hides in this quick configuration that the user is accepting the processing of data that is not necessary for the purpose of creating the account.
For now, the ball is on the roof of the Spanish Data Protection Agency, who will have to analyze and study ASUFIN’s demand. From Xataka Android we have contacted Google to find out if they have any statement to make in this regard and, if so, we will update the news with their statements.
