Development has not stopped even in August, Google has stepped on the accelerator of Android Auto. And we already have a new beta version, 12.6. After the release of Android Auto 12.5 in its stable form, it was clear that Google would not take long to evolve the infotainment system. However, we have not noticed any major changes.
It’s been almost two weeks since Google released Android Auto 12.5 stable and the first beta of Android Auto 12.6, which took a bit longer than usual to develop. The vehicle system remains mature, the Coolwalk interface is more than established, and Google has been correcting several of the errors found in previous versions (and is still patching several others). It’s a good idea to keep the app updated.
New beta version that you can download right now
As is often the case with the Android Auto development process, the new version is now available on Google Play only for those who are within the test groupThis group is currently closed, but there is a way to get in even if it appears full. This is how we managed to sneak into the Android Auto beta.
Continuing with tradition, Google has not released any changelog beyond the usual bug fixes and stability improvements. We have been analyzing Android Auto 12.6 beta on our devices without finding any changes to the interface. And Google has not yet fixed several serious bugs found in the system; such as the failure of message notifications, WhatsApp voice notes without sound or the Connection problems with Samsung Galaxy.
You weren’t able to sign up for the Android Auto beta, but you still want to try out beta 12.6 right now? There’s a way:
- Access this APK Mirror page with your mobile.
- Download Android Auto 12.6 beta. It is valid for Android 8 and higher phones.
- Install the downloaded APK, your phone will ask you if you want to update. Accept.
- The APK is completely safe and signed by Google. Otherwise you would not be able to update the app.
Like any beta version, Android Auto 12.6 may not work correctly, it is still in development. Install it only if you want to take the risk: From what we have tested, it is a sufficiently stable and secure version.
