This new iOS 18 feature that will soon arrive on the iPhone has been very popular with Google and Android
For years Google has accused Apple of mistreating Android users because of the differences it makes in its Messages app. Controversial blue bubbles and green bubbles of the messages. Apple has remained largely aloof from these accusations, rightly stating that none of its users had complained in this regard.
However, the Apple company has recently changed its mind, perhaps to avoid a possible problem with some governments. And, in this way, the iPhone Messages app to become more compatible with Android starting with iOS 18 thanks to the inclusion of RCS.
Google boasts of the arrival of RCS to the iPhone
RCS is a communication protocol developed by the GSM Association with the aim of improve traditional text messagesThis technology adds advanced features that popular messaging apps like WhatsApp have. These include improved multimedia file sending, read indicators, improvements to group chats, and better security.
And, interestingly, the latest ad released by Android boasts of this iPhone novelty. Google video starts with: “Rich Communication Services are finally coming to the iPhone” and highlights some of the features that will improve communication between the two platforms:
- No more blurry images between Android and iPhone: higher resolution images and videos thanks to a cloud backend.
- No more interrupted group chats – ability to leave group chats.
- Read receipts and write flags: Can be disabled.
Better photos, videos, group chat messages for everyone with RCS
It is quite interesting that Google boasts about new features coming to the iPhone, and some new features that Apple has barely given any importance to. It is something that has been officially announced during the iOS 18 event, but that has barely transcended.
The most curious thing of all is that one of Google’s complaints was about the green and blue bubbles that the iPhone’s Messages app uses. The color of the bubbles differentiates between whether you are using iMessage (blue) or traditional messaging (green)), so that the user knows if their company can charge them for that message.
And this is something that is not going to change even if iPhones are compatible with RCS. If an SMS or RCS message is sent it will be displayed in a green bubble just like beforeIt will be more compatible, yes, but it will still be the same color. Something that Google has complained bitterly about and criticized Apple for.
It is expected that RCS coming to most iPhones later this year. The feature is currently available in the iOS 18 beta, although it depends on the phone company whether the option appears active or not, so it is not only up to Apple to implement changes to bring RCS to the iPhone.
