Nintendo has just announced that Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will be closing its doors on November 28, which will sadden fans of a title that was released almost seven years ago. But this bad news is accompanied by a glimmer of hope: a new Animal Crossing game.
Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is dead, long live Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp
Pocket Camp debuted on iOS and Android in late 2017, and has since received numerous updates improving the experience and content. Despite its popularity, Nintendo has never managed to monetize it properly, which is why, starting November 28, you will no longer be able to play this free version. Instead, the team will be offering a new version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp for mobile with save carryover. This will be a paid version, without the social aspects of the original title. There will be no optional subscription, but a one-time purchase.
Aside from data transfer, the basic gameplay and controls will be the same as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the developers assure. However, since this app will not require a continuous online connection, some features that do require it, such as market boxes, gifts, and visiting other players’ camps, will not be available.

The release date of the paid app will be announced around October.
While the disappearance of the free version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is regrettable, it is rare that Nintendo makes an effort to revive interest, especially with a paid game on mobile. It will be interesting to see how much it will sell, while fans of the Japanese brand are still waiting for real Mario and other Zelda games on iOS and Android. Not a Mario Kart or Super Mario ersatz…
