In a few weeks, the world will discover the iPhone 16 lineup as part of the traditional Apple Back-to-School Event. Before the launch, Apple is organizing iPhone production in order to prioritize the models that will ship the most. According to a recent report from the supply chain, Apple expects that two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales will be Pro or Pro Max models, a trend that we have already seen on previous iPhone lines!
The iPhone 16 Pro, a huge success?
Apple is preparing for a new success with its iPhone 16 range, the Cupertino firm anticipates a trend: the Pro models should represent two thirds of sales. This estimate, which shows the growing importance of high-end versions in Apple’s strategy, is based on several innovations that should appeal to customers looking for performance and novelty.
One of the biggest new features that should draw consumers to the Pro models is the introduction of the periscope lens, a feature previously reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. By expanding this feature to the iPhone 16 Pro model, Apple is making this advanced technology accessible to a wider audience. The periscope lens, which allows for enhanced optical zoom without increasing the thickness of the phone, is a major draw for customers who value photography with their iPhone.
Apple’s confidence in the popularity of its Pro models is also evident in its relationships with suppliers. LG Innotech has been named the sole supplier of the periscope lens module for the iPhone 16, and Apple has ordered enough modules to cover 70% of the expected demand for the iPhone 16 lineup. A clear indicator that the Pro models are currently being produced more than the standard models in partner factories in Asia.
Ambitious production for growing demand
In terms of production, Apple expects to reach 90.1 million units by the end of the year. This impressive figure reflects not only the anticipated demand for the new iPhones, but also the expected impact of new features, such as Apple Intelligence, which should encourage many users to renew their device or migrate from Android to the iPhone.
The estimated sales breakdown by model shows the expected dominance of the Pro versions in sales figures. The standard iPhone 16 model is expected to sell 24.5 million units, accounting for 27% of sales. In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to reach 5.8 million units (6%), while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is estimated at 33.2 million units (37%). Finally, the iPhone 16 Pro, including both versions, is expected to total 26.6 million units (30%).
With an expected proportion of sales for the Pro models reaching 67%, Apple confirms a trend that has been established over the years: users are increasingly inclined to opt for the most powerful versions of the iPhone, even if it means a higher cost. What must also be taken into account is that many consumers resell their previous iPhone, which allows them to reduce the cost of the purchase and therefore to love more easily for the high-end!
The end of 2024 is shaping up to be a successful one for Apple, with an iPhone 16 range that should once again appeal to a large and loyal audience, while attracting new users.
