Apple Intelligence is not available in Europe due to regulations, but this could change soon.
The arrival of the iOS 18.1 beta has confirmed two things to us, on the one hand that Apple AI will not be available during the iOS 18 launch and, on the other hand, that the European and Chinese users will not be able to access itAccording to Apple, this is due to the laws in these regions, but everything could change very soon.
In China the problem is quite clear, all requests and all management of Apple Intelligence must be done from Chinese servers, which can be a problem for users’ privacy. In Europe the problem is not so clear, although it is probably related to the Digital Markets Act.
Tim Cook says Apple is working on bringing Apple Intelligence to Europe
Apple CEO Tim Cook himself has indicated that the company is Committed to bringing Apple Intelligence to all of its users, wherever they are and they are already talking to the various regulatory bodies to find a solution. Remember that you can have Apple Intelligence on the iPhone from outside the United States, unless you are in Europe or China.
Despite this, we still do not have a possible date. Tim Cook says they want to understand all the regulatory requirements first before providing a timeframe for enabling Apple Intelligence in these regions.
We are engaged, as you can imagine, with both regulatory bodies. And our goal is to move as quickly as we can, obviously, because our goal is always to get features out to everyone. We have to understand the regulatory requirements before we can commit to doing that and commit to a date for doing that, but we are very engaged very constructively with both of them.
Apple has already announced in an official statement that Apple Intelligence would not be available in Europe due to fear of violating the Digital Markets ActApple’s AI is fully integrated into the operating system, but it is not allowed to use other types of artificial intelligence, something that might not be taken well in Europe.
We have already seen how Apple has been forced to allow competition on the iPhone offering alternative app stores and also alternative wallets to Apple Pay. So they may be afraid of being forced to offer alternative AIs as well.
Apple Intelligence has just been born And there is only a small group of users who can try out Apple’s AI. Also, it should not be forgotten that it will be in beta for quite some time, which is why there are so many missing features in Apple Intelligence at the moment, which will be added as updates continue.
In addition to offering this interesting information, Tim Cook has also assured that Apple Intelligence will be available in more languages next year.. Although this does not specify whether it will be with an iOS 18 update or if we will have to wait for iOS 19. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait that long.
