Apple is preparing to release a minor iOS 17.6.1 update for the iPhone (and iPadOS 17.6.1 for the iPad), according to a post shared today by a leaker on X. In addition to this leakeranother account, this time private, also corroborated the information. For the moment, however, we do not see any device with this firmware in our server logs.
A version without much interest
While Apple has likely canceled iOS 17.5.2, it is focusing its efforts on iOS 18 and iOS 18.1, both of which are currently available in developer beta.
We don’t know much about this 17.6.1 update, except that this version will carry the build number 21G93. However, it is certain that this will be a minor update, especially since Apple is more than busy with iOS 18 and the Apple Intelligence platform which has been delayed.
iPhone users who are still using iOS 17 can expect this update to include bug fixes and security patches. Nothing more.
It remains to be seen when the company will release iOS 17.6.1 to the public. Some are talking about a release before August 15, others before the end of the month. Remember that iOS 17.6 did not bring any new features at the end of July, despite a numbering that suggested otherwise. There is therefore no reason for a visible evolution to make its way into iOS 17.6.1.
Who among you dear readers has already put iOS 17 away?
