The new option is now available in the Apple Store
After the official launch of the iPad Pro with OLED screen and the two new iPad Air models, Apple had dedicated itself solely and exclusively to presenting new software updatesespecially to polish all the improvements that the beta versions of iOS 18 and other operating systems bring.
Until now. Today the company led by Tim Cook has announced the launch of a new hardware product. It is a HomePod mini in midnight color. It is available for 109 euros and can now be reserved at the Apple Store with its official arrival on the day July 17, 2024.
The new midnight HomePod mini joins the previous collection of colors blue, yellow, orange and whiteand replaces the previous space gray version.
Apple launches a new HomePod mini
The HomePod mini, a more compact version of Apple’s smart speaker, was released on November 13, 2020. This small smart speaker was introduced as a cheaper alternative to the original HomePod, offering many of the same features but in a more compact design. Equipped with Apple’s S5 chip, the HomePod mini promises advanced audio performance despite its small size.
It also integrates the Siri virtual assistant, allowing users to control smart home devices, access information, and manage other features using voice commands. As we mentioned, its spherical design, covered in a fabric mesh, is available in different colors, making it aesthetically pleasing and adaptable to different spaces in the home.
The launch of the HomePod mini also stood out for its excellent integration with the Apple ecosystem. Users can take advantage of audio streaming functionality from their iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices, facilitating a seamless, continuous listening experience. Additionally, HomePod mini can act as a smart home hub, allowing control of a wide variety of HomeKit-compatible devices. Despite its smaller size and cost, Apple assured that sound quality would not be compromised, promising spatial audio with surround sound and advanced technologies such as computational audio to optimize the listening experience. This launch was a strategic move to compete in the smart speaker market, where devices such as the Amazon Echo and Google Nest were already well positioned.
Separately, Apple is also rumored to be working on a HomePod with a camera and a display that would run a version of a tvOS-inspired operating system and/or a smart display primarily focused on home automation that would combine the features of a HomePod, an Apple TV, and a FaceTime camera.
Apple last refreshed its HomePod product line in January 2023, with the launch of the second generation of the larger original HomePod with S7 chip, multi-zone audio, spatial audio, a temperature and humidity sensor and design improvements.
