The September 9 keynote is fast approaching, with many announcements including the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch SE 3, iPad 11, iPad mini 7 but also new AirPods 4. However, a surprise could be on the agenda: the arrival of the AirPods SE. Two new AirPods 4 models are expected, with distinct characteristics, the cheaper one could recover the SE suffix introduced on iPhone and Apple Watch.
Really two pairs of AirPods 4?
The two expected AirPods 4 models will have a similar design, combining elements of the AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro, but will differ in features and price. The top model will replace the current AirPods 3 and will be priced around €199. It will include active noise cancellation, transparency mode, a MagSafe charging case with a speaker for Locateand possibly other features exclusive to the AirPods Pro. It just won’t have silicone tips.
The entry-level model, meanwhile, will replace the AirPods 2 and will retail for around €149, but without noise cancellation, transparency mode, or a MagSafe case. The biggest change will be a short-stem design, as well as support for spatial audio.
So far, these two pairs of headphones are named “AirPods 4”but it seems increasingly likely that the lower model will actually be named AirPods SE.
This naming strategy would align with Apple’s existing product line, such as iPhones and Apple Watches. AirPods SE would then be the most affordable option, followed by AirPods 4 as a standard model, AirPods Pro 3 for advanced features, and AirPods Max for a premium experience. By naming this model AirPods SEApple could clarify its lineup, helping consumers differentiate products by features and price.
What do you think? Who among you still uses AirPods 1 or 2?
