Good news for iPhone users in Canada and Australia: you can now add your Apple Account card to the Wallet app. A feature that makes it easy to view and spend your App Store and Apple Store credit.
Pay with your Apple Account balance from your iPhone
Launched in 2022 in the United States, then in Japan, the Apple Account card in Wallet is expanding to two new countries: Canada and Australia. All you need is iOS 17.6 installed and the Wallet app.
By pressing the “+” at the top right, you can select “Add Apple Account” from the available cards. Your Apple account balance (funded by gift cards for example) is then displayed in Wallet.
You can then use this credit to buy products, apps, games or music. The card also works contactless in physical Apple Stores. No need to show a QR code to an employee like with the old iTunes Pass system.
An expansion that benefits the Apple ecosystem
This expanded rollout is a good thing for Apple customers, who can more easily access their balance. It should also encourage them to spend more on the brand’s platforms, whether it’s the App Store or products. The Cupertino firm is looking to simplify the purchasing experience on its ecosystem as much as possible. By integrating the Apple Account card into Wallet, alongside Apple Pay, it centralizes all payment methods in one place.
It is unfortunate, however, that this new feature comes at a time when it is no longer possible to buy iTunes cards at a discount from some retailers. At one time, this allowed you to get credit to spend in Apple Stores at a lower cost.
Still, the addition of the Apple Account card to Wallet is still handy for anyone who receives App Store or Apple Store gift cards. And it shows that Apple is continuing to expand the functionality of its Wallet app to more countries, perhaps one day waiting for support for ID cards like in the United States.
