Earlier this month, Apple quietly introduced some changes to its AppleCare+ service, which extends the brand’s product warranty and also adds coverage for accidental damage. Where previously Apple Care+ offered service for two accidental damages per year, Apple now says repairs are “unlimited”.
On Friday, the company began sending emails to Apple Care+ customers reminding them of the change.
What’s new for AppleCare+ customers?
The email sent reminds once again that devices covered by the AppleCare + plan can now benefit from unlimited repairs in the event of accidental damage, instead of only two incidents every 12 months for the duration of the subscription.
The company also clarifies that these protections are “at no additional cost” and that customers do not have to do anything to benefit from unlimited protection in the event of accidental damage.
Your AppleCare+ plan now protects your covered device against an unlimited number of accidental damages from handling (instead of two incidents every 12 months) while the plan is active and in effect. Each incident is subject to applicable service fees. This extra protection costs you nothing, and you don’t have to do anything.
However, we imagine the company has some practical limits in place to prevent abuse.
AppleCare+ prices vary by device, and customers have the option of paying a monthly subscription or full price. For an iPhone 14, AppleCare+ costs 11.99 euros per month or 239 euros at full price. For an Apple Watch 8, count 4.99 euros per month or 99 euros in all.
It’s worth noting that even with an AppleCare+ subscription, you’ll have to pay a deductible to Apple if your device needs repair.
AppleCare+ Theft and Loss
Apple also offers a more expensive AppleCare+ plan that covers theft and loss. Although this formula has also been improved with unlimited repairs, it still only covers two incidents of theft or loss per year.
