Two weeks ago, Apple released a new software version for the iPhone numbered iOS 17.6.1. As is customary with updates ending in “.1”, this was a purely corrective update. Today, Apple is releasing a “new revised version” of iOS 17.6.1, however, only the iPhone 14, 13 and lower models are affected, the iPhone 15 did not receive it.

New update available
Apple surprised everyone today by re-releasing an iOS 17.6.1 update, less than two weeks after it was first released. The move is all the more unusual because the version number remains the same, a rare occurrence that attracts attention. The first version of iOS 17.6.1 was made available on August 7, promising “major bug fixes” for compatible iPhones. Now, Apple is bringing back the same version, suggesting that the initial release needed a quick tweak.
All iPhones eligible for iOS 17 can access this new update from Settings, with the exception of iPhone 15s. The latter are not included in the official distribution of the new version of iOS 17.6.1, although they can technically install it via the Apple developer site. This situation suggests that the fixes brought by this version do not concern the latest iPhone models, or that Apple has chosen to delay their update for other undisclosed reasons.
Fixes still unclear
At this point, Apple has not provided specific details about the changes brought by this new version of iOS 17.6.1. However, it is likely that it aims to fix a minor bug that went unnoticed during the first launch, but which does not affect iPhone 15 users.
