The company has registered a patent with a camera system for Apple Watch.
It seems like the natural evolution of the smartwatch, right? Currently, Apple’s smart watch is focused on the field of health with really convenient functions that help eat good nutrition, exercise daily and even monitor your heart rate. But what would happen if Apple incorporated elements of a more social sphere?
You’re leisurely strolling through the woods on a nice warm day, with your iPhone in your pocket, when all of a sudden… boom, you get a video call on your Apple Watch. With a simple gesture raising your wrist you accept the video call. It’s your partner, calling you from a MacBook. It would be fantastic. Well, it seems that Apple is also thinking about it because recently the company has registered a patent for an Apple Watch with a camera and it’s a pretty detailed idea.
A new patent describes an Apple Watch with a camera
It is not the first time that Apple has proposed a similar initiative for its smartwatch, in the middle of last year the company registered a patent for an Apple Watch with a camera integrated into the Digital Crown, a much more bizarre type of implementation than the one we have known on this day. In fact, the company has filed for multiple Apple Watch camera patents in 2018, 2019, and 2022.
Apple could include a camera in future versions of the Apple Watch
From Patent Apple inform that Apple has registered a patent in the United States Patent and Trademark Office whose illustrations show a smartwatch with a camera attached to a strap to take photos.
The patent describes an unlocking process for the watch camera
The strap or accessory camera mechanism of this patent would allow “a quick or ergonomic release of the watch case” and without the need to be activated through a clasp, a buckle or a closing mechanism. Be that as it may, even if we witness the registration of a patent like this, it does not mean that the idea will come to light in the coming years.
The implementation of a camera system in the Apple Watch would not only carry social connotations, but also could be related to health functions and emergency situations. It would be really useful. It is easy to think that holding your arm in the same position while making a video call with the Apple Watch could become uncomfortable, but isn’t it already with an iPhone, a device that weighs much more? What do you think about this patent?
