It is very common that these acquisitions are shortcuts to launch new products or integrate new functions into existing ones.. Quick ways to get to a result instead of having to complete development from scratch. However, some of the most recently purchased companies are still waiting for a concrete destination from doors out.
These are the cases of Silk Labs, for example, which could well lead to the launch of a product like the one already leaked by Gurman: a HomePod with more functions than the previous one, aimed above all at home automation. Or Tueo Health, called to bring its solutions for asthmatics to the Apple ecosystem, perhaps increasing the information on breathing to the owners of an Apple Watch.
But without any doubt, no sector stands out as much as that of augmented or virtual reality, where Apple has entered with the purchase of companies such as Spaces, NextVR, Camerai, Akonia or IKinema. Will these acquisitions lead to the launch of a helmet or glasses as has been rumored for a long time?
In Infinite Loop
This is one of this week’s episodes of Infinite Loop, the daily podcast of applesphere, broadcast from Monday to Friday at 7:00 a.m. (Spanish peninsular time), in which we talk about Apple and its competition seen through the prism of the Cupertino company. It is a podcast of about ten minutes in length, presented by Javier Lacort and edited by Santi Araujo.
And these are the rest of this week’s episodes, you can listen to them in full from this page.
#649: Appleinflation
Only a miracle would prevent a price hike on the iPhones of 2022, especially on the Pro models. Inflation, the currency situation and five generations in a row with static prices seem too powerful arguments to assume that increases will come.
#650: ABS vs. PBT
Gruber’s complaint in his review of the MacBook Air M2 was lapidary: the keyboards that Apple mounts on its laptops age very poorly. A matter of choice of materials.
#651: This product will die after three years
Some comments on a general problem, that of the useful life of the batteries, in a specific device, the AirPods, which due to their size and price scheme are especially sensitive to this issue. Something that very predictably will end up being regulated and looked at with different eyes.
#652: And Gift Cardhop
Along with the subscription to Fantastical that I just recovered, comes, as a gift, another subscription: the one that allows you to take full advantage of Cardhop, an excellent contact management application.
