I’ve been suspecting it for months, although it really wasn’t until the recent rise in the price of the platform that I began to seriously consider unsubscribing. Not so much because of the climb itself, but because of the moment in which the platform is located. And that at the level of content has grown a lot since that November 1, 2019.
Great titles that are seen all at once (or every so often)
Where there was love, there are always ashes. And that is why I will never deny that Apple TV + is probably the best platform in terms of quality of its contents. I don’t want to detract from the great jewels of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or HBO Max, especially the latter, but in my opinion the quality of Apple is still ahead.
Y quality is evident at all levels. From the visual and sound section that ooze exquisite care by the creators, as well as at the script and narrative level. Logically, everyone has their tastes and obviously not everything on the platform suits me. Without going any further, I have not been able to see titles like the acclaimed For All Humanity series in full. It’s not for me, but I don’t deny that from the little I’ve seen, the level it delivers to the viewer is fascinating.
Series like Separation seem cult-worthy to me, just as I am captivated by the plots of The Morning Show, I celebrated the return of Mythic Quest or enjoyed the animated film Luck as a child. What then is the problem? Well, it’s not satiating. Or not at least as regularly as other platforms.
Quality is important, but not decisive. the amount matters too, at least in my opinion. And although Apple TV + goes to premiere almost a week, the truth is that it is quite intermittent with the big ones. I don’t expect that every month we will attend a “premiere of the year”. Nobody does it. However, the dosage of Apple TV + is excessive.
Once you have seen its great jewels, it is barely filled with the rest. His strategy of not releasing full series seasons and doing it weekly manages to hook you for a month, two months or three at the most. But in that case it is not a very intensive use either, since in the end I only attend once a week when the new chapter arrives. The next thing left is to wait months for another great premiere and return to the loop. And nothing in between.
It’s not that I fall in love with others, but at least they entertain me longer
If I take a look at the apps next to it, I can see right away what it is that has killed my love for Apple TV+. And it is that, although the other platforms also have their sins, in the end they entertain me 7 days a week and, if I wanted to, during the 24 hours of all those days. It is not easy to bring exact accounts in this regard, but seeing the amount of content I suspect that Apple TV + would not last more than a week of mega-intensive use.
And here the content that I call “filler” is very important. Obviously I enjoy more than a mega production, but you can’t see one every day, nor do you always feel like it. Personally, I like to combine those great series and movies with lighter content that makes you think little and entertains you. I also like it because it doesn’t commit me to counting the hours until night comes and watching it, since I can leave it at any time and even intersperse it with another.
And although Apple TV + seems to be investigating strategies to add more content that is not its own, third-party content is really non-existent. They will want to keep their seal of quality and not “dirty” their catalog and it is very legal, but insufficient to contain thirsty users like me.
So, when I finish one of those easy Netflix series or I just get tired, i know i can find another. And if not, maybe one will wait for me on Amazon Prime Video. To some bad ones, there are always classics like The Simpsons on Disney + with its zillions of chapters. On Apple TV + there is not so much light entertainment and there is little alternative other than to see something that you have seen before.
Only the family plan is holding me back from escaping Apple TV+
If we look at the price comparison of streaming platforms, even with the rises of many of them, I think they compensate me. I will not dare to say that Apple TV + seems expensive to me for 6.99 euros, however, I feel that I amortize others more even though they are more expensive.
Those 7 euros (rounding up) will not make me rich if I save them, nor will they make me poor if I invest them in the Apple platform. But is that There are months in which I don’t even see anything on the platform. In that circumstance, I feel it’s much more reasonable to pay for the service for 1-2 months out of the year and enjoy all the new stuff. With the big premieres already on the air and without unnecessary waiting to see seasons in full.
My big problem is the family subscription that I drag. Apple One packages that include access to Apple TV + have also risen in price, in this sense they do compensate me for the intensive use I make of other services like the 2 TB of iCloud or Apple Music.
Doing the math, I have verified that contracting these services separately would be more expensive than with the family plan. every member of me apple family he pays me his part at the end of the month and at the end of my pocket only 6.39 euros come out.
There it is Apple Capture Key. Once again, tying yourself to its ecosystem is the foundation of everything and I am convinced that, like me, many others will be united to Apple TV + in the same way. In fact, I know of several close cases in which the platform is not even used. And that is my clear conclusion that, Jobs forbid, if one day the Apple One packages disappear or my virtual family falls apart, my love for Apple TV+ will be broken forever. Or at least for most of the year.
