At its launch, the Apple Vision Pro had few apps optimized for visionOS, with fewer than 1,000 approved on the App Store. Over time, developers’ ongoing projects have successful, which allowed the addition of a large number of visionOS applications. Today, more than 6 months after the launch, owners of the space computer can enjoy many more visionOS applications. Still, we say to ourselves, thank goodness there are iPadOS applications!
The Apple Vision Pro has 2500 native apps
Apple recently announced a major step forward for the ecosystem of its first space computer, the Apple Vision Pro. The number of native apps available on the visionOS App Store has now surpassed 2,500, marking a new milestone. This impressive 2,500 native apps comes on top of the hundreds of thousands of iPadOS apps that are compatible with the Vision Pro. However, these apps can’t provide the same level of immersion as apps built natively for visionOS.
This increase is all the more remarkable given that last June, Apple reported that 2,000 native apps were available on visionOS. In just a few months, the visionOS App Store has added 500 new apps, showing the clear commitment of developers to Apple’s space computer.
In terms of comparison, the visionOS ecosystem is starting to position itself as a serious competitor to other mixed reality platforms, including Meta’s Quest. While the Quest app store has been around for much longer and offers around 3,000 apps, the more recently launched visionOS App Store is experiencing a more dynamic and rapid growth trend. This rapid evolution could allow Apple to close the gap with Meta and perhaps even surpass the Quest ecosystem in a few months.
The growing success of the visionOS App Store and the continued addition of new native apps solidify the Apple Vision Pro as a key player in the mixed reality space. We now look forward to seeing where this growth trend can take visionOS in the months and years to come.
