Do you remember the day Tim Cook presented the very first Apple Watch? After unveiling the iPhone 6, the man who had succeeded Steve Jobs a few years earlier used one of the Apple co-founder’s favorite phrases to reveal the brand’s first watch. That was September 9, 2014. Well, the iPhone 16 keynote will take place on September 9, 2024. You already get the idea.
An Apple Watch X in apotheosis
Rumors about an “Apple Watch X” started at the beginning of 2023, when we heard about the upcoming arrival of the Series 10. Picked up by all the specialized media, our article left its mark, including the name Apple Watch X. We were wrong about the launch date, but apparently not about the rest. Apple was indeed working on a watch with a redesigned design to celebrate the model’s tenth anniversary, as it did in 2017 with the iPhone X. The original iPhone was launched in 2007.
Finally, the most logical date is that of the next keynote, just made official for September 9, 2024.
Still, we’re not sure whether it’s a special edition “Apple Watch X” or just a standard Series 10 model. One reason is that while the original Apple Watch was announced in September 2014, it didn’t actually hit shelves until April 2015. Another is that the rumored 2024 model appears to be a modest update rather than a significant overhaul. It’ll be thinner, wider (both sizes increasing by 4mm), and have new sensors. At the same time, what can Apple do to revolutionize its watch, especially after releasing an Apple Watch Ultra two years ago? For its first decade, we’re still expecting new features like high blood pressure and sleep apnea detection. And maybe a new strap system.
In short, while an “Apple Watch X” could be a fitting tribute to the original model’s tenth anniversary, nothing has been truly confirmed.
One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of entertainment at Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” keynote. In addition to the Apple Watch 10/X, we’re expecting an Apple Watch Ultra 3, a plastic Apple Watch SE 3, two AirPods 4 variants, and four iPhone 16s, including the very expensive iPhone 16 Pro Max. All with a good dose of AI and why not new entry-level iPads.
In the meantime, relive the keynote of September 9, 2014:
