Bad news for those eagerly awaiting Apple’s first foldable device. According to Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong, its mass production may not meet the previously announced schedule of 2025. Apple is therefore likely to launch later than expected in this booming market.
Screen durability issues to blame
According to analyst Jeff Pu, there have been “pushouts”, or postponements, regarding Apple’s foldable iPad. He is now counting on an arrival in the second quarter of 2026, and no longer at the end of 2025 as initially planned.
The reason? Screen durability issues that would require more time to resolve. A major challenge for a device that will have to withstand repeated folding and unfolding on a daily basis. Apple probably doesn’t want to repeat Samsung’s setbacks with its first Galaxy Fold.
A first large-format foldable before the iPhone
Despite this setback, Jeff Pu remains confident about the potential of future Apple products, particularly thanks to the iPhone 17 and Apple Intelligence. But to discover the brand’s first foldable device, we will probably have to wait until 2026.
According to the analyst, Apple is expected to first launch a foldable iPad or MacBook with a large 20.3-inch screen. The foldable iPhone, which is expected to sell in larger volumes, would not arrive until late 2026. Note that Jeff Pu is an analyst and not a leaker, which means these are personal predictions rather than rumors.
It remains to be seen whether this additional delay will allow Apple to offer a truly accomplished and differentiating product in this very promising but still young foldable market. The company is dependent on Samsung Display, the only one capable of providing quality foldable screens on an industrial scale. In any case, you will have to be a little more patient before being able to fold your iPhone or iPad.
