Iberdrola presented its Supplier of the Year in Spain 2022 Awards last Tuesday, these are recognitions that fell to a total of eleven collaborating companies of the company “in the development of its strategy towards a decarbonized economy, based on their investments in renewables and distribution networks, increasingly intelligent, large-scale storage projects and the commitment to innovative solutions for its customers”.
With these awards, Iberdrola “recognizes the key role of the value chain in achieving the group’s strategic projects, underlines the importance of creating an ecosystem of suppliers working with the same objectives and reiterates the commitment to encourage business management in aspects such as sustainable development, safety and quality, innovation, internationalization and job creation”.
The delivery of these awards, according to the company, was held at the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao. And it was chaired by Mario Ruiz-Tagle, CEO of Iberdrola Spain, accompanied by Asís Canales, Global Director of People and Services and Institutional Delegate of Iberdrola in the Basque Country. In addition, it was attended by more than 240 guests, including numerous representatives of the supplier companies with which Iberdrola collaborates in Spain.
In his speech, Mario Ruiz-Tagle highlighted that suppliers are necessary and relevant actors. “Without their work, commitment, dedication and daily performance, we would not be able to continue being a responsible, sustainable and resilient company”, he pointed out.

THE AWARDED COMPANIES
The awards consist of eleven categories, which recognize companies for their focus on innovation and competitiveness, diversity and equality, occupational risk prevention and quality, sustainability, job creation or their vocation for internationalization.
The Best Supplier of the Year Award went to the firm Ormazabal “for its extensive experience working with Iberdrola, always responding with the highest level of quality, jointly developing solutions, and supply flexibility.”
The Equipment Manufacturer Award was won by the Asturian Gonvarri Solar Steel. This provider “provides great support in various key projects for Iberdrola, showing flexibility, quality of service, reliable equipment and competitive prices in the field of renewable energy.”
The Internationalization Award was awarded to the company Deutsche Windtechnik. A supplier firm from Aragon “that accompanies Iberdrola in the strategy of global wind energy maintenance models outside of Spain and new markets”.
In Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the winner was Beeplanet Factory. The Navarra startup installs second-life batteries (circular economy) at charging points. “It has developed a scalable product, which allows accelerating the deployment of fast charging points,” said Iberdrola.
In the Diversity and Equality category, the company from La Mancha INAEL was recognized for its commitment to “implementing measures that promote diversity and equal opportunities, supporting policies that can benefit groups with special difficulties”.
The Digitalization and New Technologies Award went to the Madrid-based company Bluetab (IBM group) for its work on Big Data, Cloud, Data Management and Data Governance. The technology firm expects to hire 300 professionals in the next three years, according to the company.
In the Technical Works and Services section, the graceful company was Lizelan from Gipuzkoa for “its decisive service in eliminating pruning anomalies in the electrical distribution sector, carrying out its work with a high quality”.
In Non-Technical Services, the Madrid company JA Garrigues, “Iberdrola’s main reference firm in Spain”, to which it provides “legal advisory services in different fields”, was established as the winner.
The Energy Transition Award fell to Ecoenergías del Guadiana de Extremadura, recognized for its environmental management services and PV solar plant co-development contracts. As a result of this collaboration, Iberdrola has built and put into operation more than 1,900 new solar MW, has another 575 MW under construction and 380 MW in an advanced stage of processing.
In the Sustainability and SDG contribution category, Iberdrola recognized the work of the Galician company Mil SA Trillo Galicia, which after carrying out an ESG improvement plan requested by Iberdrola “has positioned itself with more than 90/100 points in the ESG model of Sustainability”.
Finally, Iberdrola also awarded an award for Economic Recovery and Employment Generation to the Asturian Idesa (GDA-Windar) “for its efficient management and maximum safety” with the H2 storage tanks, destined for the hydrogen plant of Iberdrola in Puertollano in Ciudad Real.
