Because it can be a big scam and can empty your bank account. A person from Delhi became a victim of an Instagram scam. In one incident, he suffered a loss of Rs 29 lakh. The person bought the iPhone from Instagram. You will also be surprised to hear what happened after that.
Sellers offered significant discounts on iPhones, prompting consumers to bargain. The complainant, who has been identified by the officials as Vikas Katiyar, lives in Delhi’s Ghitorni. He told the police that a few days back he saw the iPhone 14 with an attractive discount on the Instagram page and got excited to buy it. According to Katiyar, this gang of people had asked for 30 per cent advance (Rs 28,000) of the purchase of the phone. The scammers then contacted him through multiple mobile phones and requested him to make further payments to clear custom holdings and other taxes.
Even after that the person did not get the shipping details. When he contacted the dealer, he said that the shipment was held up at customs and requested additional money to clear it. Believing her story, Katiyar adds more money to her account. For some weeks, Katiyar did not know that he had been cheated.
He told in the complaint that he transferred Rs 28,69,850 from the account. The buyer lodged a report with the Cyber Crime Unit of Delhi Police, which is probing the situation. The police cautioned people to be cautious while transacting online and verify the legitimacy of the seller before making any payment.
