Marvel’s campaign to have Black Panther: Wakanda Forever considered in major Academy Award categories, including Best Picture.
This probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise after the first film garnered a Best Picture nomination.
But Marvel Studios has now officially submitted Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for consideration in “all categories” at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The studio kicked off the sequel’s Oscars campaign with a “poster for your consideration” featuring Queen Ramonda and like some of the critics who have praised the film since it hit theaters earlier this month.
Angela Bassett has received rave reviews to earn a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her powerful performance as T’Challa’s grieving mother.
There’s a long way to go for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Of course, studios submit movies for consideration all the time and nothing comes of it, so this is no guarantee that Wakanda Forever will receive any recognition.
In addition to finding huge success at the box office, its predecessor had a huge impact on the cultural zeitgeist.
The Academy may have simply deemed it too important to ignore.
Superhero movies don’t usually get much love at the Oscars, but maybe Black Panther will get a second Best Picture Oscar nomination.
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye, and the Dora Milaje, fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers following the death of King T’Challa.
As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must unite with the help of Nakia and Everett Ross and forge a new path for the Wakandan kingdom.
Featuring Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of a hidden undersea nation, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livanalli.
