Carrying out procedures from your mobile phone is easier than ever. One of the most relevant examples is the application My Citizen Folder, which allows you to access all kinds of procedures and documentation: you can download your work history report, access your European health card or download your registration certificate, to name a few examples.
Another official application worth keeping in mind is miDGT, which for a few years now has allowed us to carry our driving licence comfortably and legally on our mobile phone. Taking all of the above into account, many people are wondering when we will be able to do the same with our DNI. Below we will tell you all the news on this subject.
When will you be able to have your ID on your mobile phone?
Although we can legally carry our driving licence on our mobile phone since the beginning of 2020, For now we cannot do the same with the DNIWe know that the National Police is working to ensure that we can carry our identity documents on our mobile phones from the end of 2020, although the date on which this will be possible is currently unknown.
Despite the above, everything points to the fact that the arrival of the DNI on the mobile is closer than ever. This is what was suggested by a video published on the TikTok account of the National Police in which they stated that we could carry the DNI on the mobile ‘soon’. The video we are talking about was published last March, so it is likely that there will be news on this matter very soon.
What is DNI 4.0?
DNI 4.0 is the name given to the most recent version of the electronic DNI, presented in June 2021. The main advantage of DNI 4.0 is the fact that it can be carried on a mobile phone.
If you have recently renewed your DNI you will have the new version, although if you are not sure it is easy to clear up any doubts. As we can see on the National Police website, in the upper left part of the DNI 4.0 Both the flag of the European Union and the flag of Spain appear.
It is important to note that the technology for carrying ID cards on your mobile phone is still in development. This means that having the most recent version of the DNI will not allow you to carry it on your mobile phone until an app developed specifically for this purpose is officially released.
Once it is available we will be able to identify ourselves in a completely legal way using only our mobile phone, so Nothing will happen if we leave our ID at homeWe can use our mobile phone for any type of transaction (public or private) without any problem, such as opening a bank account, checking into a hotel or renting a vehicle.
What will the app to carry your ID on your mobile be called?
The provisional name of the application that will allow us to carry the national identity document on our mobile is ‘ID on mobile’although since the official announcement has not yet been made, it is likely that the name will end up being another one. There is also no information related to the platforms on which it will be available, although it is logical to think that we will be able to download it on both iOS and Android.
Taking into account the above, we do not have much data about how the DNI works on mobile phones. The only thing we know is that the system It will be based on the use of a QR code electronically signed by the Police which we can use to identify ourselves where appropriate.
Is it valid to carry a photo of your ID on your mobile phone?
Since it is not currently possible to carry an official ID card on your mobile phone (as is the case with a driving license), many people choose to carry a photo of their ID card to have it on hand at all times. Although it is something that can get us out of a tight spot on a specific occasion, It is essential to present the DNI in physical format for it to be valid.
This means that showing a photo of your ID before boarding a plane will be of no use to you, as it has no legal validity whatsoever. It won’t help you rent a car either.to identify yourself at a hotel or to carry out any type of official procedure: you will always have to show your national identity document in physical format.
As we said, it may be useful for some minor procedures, but carrying a photo of your ID on your mobile phone has no legal validity and there is a high probability that it will be rejected. Taking the above into account, we will have to continue carrying our ID with us until the application we are talking about becomes a reality.
