We all know that Chrome is not perfect, this browser consumes much more memory than others, but it is still one of the fastest and most powerful. In addition, thanks to extensions we can expand the capabilities of this browser.
Many other browsers use Chromium, such as Microsoft Edge or Breve. This is nothing more than the open source code base that anyone can build a browser on. The good thing is that Chromium browsers have support for Chrome extensions.
It took a while, but this long-awaited feature has arrived in Google Chrome
Making changes or improvements to this app is not easy. Before releasing any update, Google makes sure that it is fully functional and free of problems.
There are many features that users are asking for this browser, but not all of them are delivered. Those that are delivered, on occasions like this, can take many years to be implemented.
For a long time, users have been asking for the ability to “paint” tab groups in the Android and iOS versions of the browser. It is worth noting that this feature does exist in other browsers, both for smartphones and PCs.
Now, in addition to grouping different tabs in a kind of docker and giving it a name, we can color it as we wish. This function of assigning a color is interesting, since it allows us to identify more easily what the websites in each group are about. If you have many, you may end up having to make an Excel to shorten which tabs are in each color.
You may think this feature is irrelevant or not very useful, but that is not the case at all. The Chrome browser for smartphones actually encourages you to create groups of open tabs. Assigning a color to them can be extremely useful for identifying them at a glance.
Tab groups could be given a name, a kind of label that identifies them. This is very useful, but accompanying it with something as visual as a color makes it easier to detect the group we want to open. This means faster identification and saves time, even if it doesn’t seem like it.
Giving a color to the group is extremely simple, we just have to click on the name of the tab group and select one of the colors. Note that there are currently only 9 colors available, so this may not be enough if you have a lot of tab containers.
This new feature is available for both Android and iOS versions, of course. In both cases, the ability to “paint” the group of tabs works the same.
If you don’t see this option, you should know that it has only just been announced. It is in the roll-out phase and that means that it will gradually reach everyone. I don’t have it available at the moment, but some colleagues do have this function activated.
