They are already official Samsung’s new star phones for the mid-range (with permission from the ‘M’ series). And it is that we have already met the Samsung Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54, so it is clear to us to compare with their direct predecessors, the Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53.
This year there has been a price increase. Something that we had already been seeing in the high-end range at the end of 2022 and that was confirmed by Samsung itself when it presented its new Galaxy S23. However, now we see it in the mid-range, so knowing the evolution in specifications is irremediable.
From left to right: Samsung Galaxy A33, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54
There is nothing more particular than aesthetic taste, but like it more or less, the truth is that Samsung maintains the same aesthetic patterns on most of your smartphones. And so, these four phones start with a common design idea.
Obviously, the plastic materials they abound in them as a great differential element with flagships such as the Galaxy S23. However, between them they share the same ideas. However, things change if we talk about dimensions and screen:
Galaxy A33 vs. Galaxy A34
- The ‘A34’ is 1.6mm taller than the ‘A33’.
- The ‘A34’ is 4.11mm wider than the ‘A33’.
- The ‘A34’ is 1mm thicker than the ‘A33’.
- The ‘A34’ is 13 grams heavier than the ‘A33’.
- The ‘A34’ has 0.2 inches more screen diagonal than the ‘A33’.
- The ‘A34’ incorporates 120 Hz refresh rate on the screen for the 90 Hz of the ‘A33’
- Both keep the “Super AMOLED” technology for the screen.
- Both maintain FullHD + resolution.
- Both keep the selfie camera integrated into the screen in a ‘drop’ format.
Galaxy A53 vs. Galaxy A54
- The ‘A54’ is 1.4mm lower than the ‘A53’.
- The ‘A54’ is 1.9mm wider than the ‘A53’.
- The ‘A54’ is 1mm thicker than the ‘A53’.
- The ‘A54’ is 13 grams heavier than the ‘A53’.
- The ‘A54’ has 0.1 inches less screen diagonal than the ‘A53’.
- Both maintain 120 Hz refresh rate on the screen.
- Both keep the “Super AMOLED” technology for the screen.
- Both maintain FullHD + resolution.
- Both keep the selfie camera integrated into the screen in a ‘hole’ format.
Practically traced in processor, memories and battery

Nor are the changes from one generation to another noticeable in terms of hardware. In fact, share processor between generations. The Exynos 1280 is present in the Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53, while in the new generation it is something more mysterious. Samsung only claims that the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 a “eight core processor” which could well be the same as the previous ones, although it is not confirmed.
As far as memories are concerned, the ‘A33’ and ‘A34’ have versions of 6 and 8 GB of RAM, so there are no changes to this configuration. Similarly, the ‘A53’ and ‘A54’ offer a single 8 GB RAM. And all four models offer identical storage capabilities by giving 128 and 256 GB options expandable to 1 TB via MicroSD card.
If we talk about battery, all have a capacity of 5,000 mAh, which places them in the high margin of the market as far as batteries are concerned. The charging speed at 25 W It is confirmed in the ‘A33’ and ‘A53’ and, in the absence of confirmation, it indicates that it will also be the maximum power of the ‘A34’ and ‘A54’.
The new generation loses a camera sensor along the way

Several aspects to highlight in cameras. At least on paper and in the absence of knowing how they behave in real life and knowing what exact type of lens the new ones have. The first thing to note is that on the front, there seems to be no evolution of any kind with 13-megapixel lenses on the ‘A33’ and ‘A34’, as well as 32-megapixel lenses on the ‘A53’ and ‘A54’.
If we look at the back, no changes in sight in the main, wide angle and macro of the ‘A33’ and ‘A34’ with 48, 8 and 5 megapixel cameras respectively. As a noteworthy fact, in the main one they have optical image stabilization.
There is more mess in the other models. Wide angle and macro lens of 12 and 5 megapixels respectively in the ‘A53’ and ‘A54’. However, in the main one they go from 64 to 50 megapixels. And no, a camera is much more than the number of megapixels, but it is a less striking reduction and it remains to be seen how it is solved and what other features the lens offers to alleviate it.
Another fact to note is that the ‘A33’ and ‘A53’ have a 2 megapixel depth sensor that the ‘A34’ and ‘A54’ do not have. We do not know if its function has been replaced by some improvement in the other lenses, it has been trusted to the software or if the deficiency will really be perceived.
Other small changes between generations
Less notable a priori changes, but equally relevant, are found in the evolution of Bluetooth from one generation to another. The Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53 arrived with Bluetooth 5.1 and the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54 already come with Bluetooth 5.3. This is the latest standard that, among other things, reduces latency between connected accessories.

Another change to appreciate is in the software. Those of the previous generation came with One UI 4.1 based on Android 12. The ‘A34’ and ‘A54’ come, how could it be otherwise, with One UI 5.1 based on Android 13.
Now that last one could be a temporary difference, since it is possible that the Galaxy A33 and Galaxy A53 end up receiving this version. At the moment they are not officially confirmed on the Samsung route, but knowing the promise of updates from Samsung, they should not take long to be confirmed.
The new ones are 50 euros more expensive

If they had not already done so, the models of the previous generation will drop in price. Not perhaps at Samsung, where they may be discontinued, but at other distributors. However, if we take the photo at the time of its release, we observe an increase of 14.3% and 11.14% in both rangeswhich translates as 50 euros more for each one.
Whether the price increase may be more or less justifiable is left to the interpretation of each one. As data for the analysis, say that there are hardly any differences between the two generations, although there have also been increases in costs and inflation. Therefore, there are reasons both to criticize and to accept Samsung’s decision in this regard.
The conclusion for our part will come when we can test the new devices. This comparison has been on paper, but we already know very well that experience is a degree and it is possible that in the analyzes we will find changes that do make a significant difference between generations. Or maybe not and we have just confirmed the poor evolution. Time to time.
