Facebook is sending a message to users of the social network, warning that it will suspend the “Nearby Friends”, “Weather Alerts”, “Location History” and “Background Location” features on May 31. The message goes like this:

“How you used the products and features of Friends nearby, weather alerts, location history or background location, we are warning you that they will no longer be available as of May 31. Information you shared and used in these experiences, such as location history or background location, will no longer be collected as of May 31, 2022, even if you had allowed it to be shared. Facebook will continue to collect location information for other experiences, as described in our Data Policy
Update your settings
Until May 31, 2022, you can update your location history and background location settings in the Facebook app. After this date, the setting will be disabled.”
Nearby Friends is an optional service, launched in 2014, to receive notifications when a user’s contacts are nearby by tracking their location.
