Microsoft is currently rolling out the new version of Copilot to all Windows 11 users. But they won’t be the only ones to benefit from it. The American firm also plans to adapt Copilot to Windows 10. This version of the operating system still has more than a billion users today.
Copilot is supposed to become the Windows 11 nerve center. Virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence, it not only concerns the daily use of the system, but also the operation of Microsoft’s flagship software, in particular Microsoft Office. Imagine: you will soon be able to write your text, fill out your spreadsheets and create your presentations with the help of generative AI. The tool can also help you write a summary of your emails or take automatic notes during a meeting. The potential is enormous.

Copilot is available on Windows 11 thanks to update 23H2 which added the dedicated button in the taskbar. And Microsoft 365 Copilot has been deployed since early November. There is, however, a constraint. So far, Copilot is only available on Windows 11. This therefore concerns 400 million users worldwide who has a PC with this version of the operating system. What about the vast majority of Windows users who do not benefit from this version of the OS? They will soon be affected.
Microsoft adapts Copilot for Windows 10
Indeed, according to information revealed by our colleagues at Windows Central, Microsoft would have planned to adapt Copilot to Windows 10. The virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence would arrive in this version of the operating system “very soon” through an update. The arrival of Copilot in Windows 10 will be similar to that in Windows 11: a new button in the taskbar will serve as a shortcut. No date has been given by the source of Windows Central. But it seems obvious to us that Microsoft will not wait more than a year before deploying the functionality.
Microsoft’s objective in adapting Copilot to Windows 10 is to increase the number of users. Indeed, this version of the OS is still used by 1 billion users worldwide. Thanks to Windows 10, the number of users would therefore be multiplied by 2.5. And there are potentially 1 billion customers for Microsoft 365 Copilot which is marketed in the form of subscriptions.
The arrival of Copilot in Windows 10 rekindles the debate around technical support for Windows 10, which will officially end on October 25, 2025. Does this adaptation of the virtual assistant indicate that Microsoft will extend the update period for this old version of the OS? The source of Windows Central says the internal decision is still pending.
