Not long ago we told you about Corsair MP700 Gen5the first PCI-Express 5.0 SSD from the brand that promised speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s reading and 9,500 MB/s writing, the fastest to date. However, we will have to wait to buy it because it seems that Corsair is going to delay its launch date (at least), since they have removed their presentation video from the platform and the information about the device has disappeared.
It seems that storage drives with a PCI-Express 5.0 interface are having a harder time getting up and running and being available to users. There doesn’t seem to be an obvious reason for this, but the fact is that despite the fact that the interface has been on the market for months now and ready to support next-generation drives, the launch of these is becoming more difficult than necessary.
Corsair’s fastest SSD lags behind
With theoretical speeds of 10 GB/s read and 9.5 GB/s write, this is not only the fastest SSD from the manufacturer, but also one of the fastest SSDs on the market, and these speeds still don’t sublimate the maximum that the interface is capable of offering. The counterpart of this is that they also require an advanced cooling system due to the heat they generate, and we have already seen images of this Corsair MP700 Gen5 that has not only a large heatsink, but also a integrated fan for active cooling.
Of course, the bad part is that in order to get the most out of this SSD it is necessary to have a new generation system, be it Intel (with Z790 chipset) or AMD (with its latest generation AM5), although it is true that they have backwards compatibility to be able to work in systems with PCIe 4.0 interface, logically reducing its speed.
Initially, these Corsair MP700 Gen5 SSDs also offer random speeds of up to 1.5 million read IOPS and 1.7 million write IOPS, and were initially to be available only in 2TB capacities with 1,400TBW durability and price starting at €330, not too expensive considering the novelty they represent. However, for some reason Corsair seems to have eliminated all traces of this unit, and in fact they have even hidden or eliminated the presentation video that we could see a few weeks ago in which they dropped that its launch was going to be imminent.
The reason? It is unknown because the manufacturer has not given any explanation. We don’t want to be alarmist and think this is a simple delay to fine tune the unit’s signature before its release, but for now there is not even a confirmed date when we will be able to buy it for our teams. So, unfortunately we will have to wait for the manufacturer to make a move again and announce the launch of this new unit, which owners of the latest generation Intel or AMD platforms will surely be waiting to maximize the performance of their systems.
