A few weeks ago, the startup broke a record with the sale of Erling Haaland’s NFT, sold for 265 ETH, or just over 613,000 euros at that time. Today, French superstar Kylian Mbappé saw his unique card for the 2021/2022 season put up for auction. While the crypto-currency market is losing momentum, the enthusiasm has been much less strong than for the Norwegian striker.
The Sorare unicorn: from football to entertainment
Sorare is a company that offers an NFT-based fantasy football game. Each year, and for each player present in the game, 1,111 cards are issued in the form of NFTs. Classified into different levels, the most common are edited 1,000 times, the rare 100 times, the super rare 10 times, and the unique ones… once.
These NFTs in the form of cards allow users to participate in around thirty championships, divided into level and geographical criteria. Twice a week, these managers can win new cards, but also ETH. To participate, all you have to do is compose a team of 5 players, and it’s their performance in real life that will determine their score. The addition of the five marks gives the final mark.
If the world of NFT knows its share of scams, Sorare has found a profitable business, and manages to engage players over the long term. To fully understand the mechanics of the game, we have made a complete Sorare tutorial.
Kylian Mbappé remains behind Erling Haaland
We told you a few months ago the story of Cristiano Ronaldo’s unique card, which sold at auction at Bonhams, a traditional auction house. His price ? 400,000 dollars, the record at the time. A few weeks later, it was the Norwegian star Erling Haaland who broke the record, with a sale of more than 678,000 dollars, directly in the Sorare auction this time. Interestingly, the winner of the auction (Zima Blue) has since been trying to resell his card, without success.
For Kylian Mbappé, the auctions also took place on Sorare but they were not disputed enough. The player made a teaser on his Instagram account a few days ago, at the very start of the sale. In the home stretch, prices soared to 416,000 euros (or around 154 ETH) and that’s the manager”TeamBambi” who therefore sees the card arrive in his gallery.
The teams led by Nicolas Julia are on all fronts, with the signing of new major leagues like MLS a few days ago. The CEO of Sorare also took advantage of his recent stint in After Foot to confirm that two US sports would join the platform by the end of 2022.
If you want to know more about this phenomenon, we did a full test of Sorare a few months ago.
