The trade war between the United States and China has taken a rather comical turn, there is no denying it. It seems that the Chinese brand DeepCoolwhich offers different cooling systems and peripherals, has been forbidden in USAIn a rather comical twist, the brand has become “renowned” as ‘ShakingTank‘ to be re-marketed in the United States.
We’ve talked a lot about the ongoing trade war between the two countries. The United States has implemented tariffs on Chinese imports and limited the power of GPUs exported to China to prevent them from being used for artificial intelligence.
All the actions of both countries had a certain logic, even though they were often somewhat absurd actions. Something we did not expect was that it would end up affecting a manufacturer of heatsinks and peripherals. But what we did not expect was the response of this manufacturer, which is, at the very least, brilliant and ridiculous in equal parts.
DeepCool changes its name to be able to sell in the United States
The US State Department sanctioned DeepCool a few months ago. The reason for this sanction is allegedly doing business with Russian companies. Russia is currently carrying out an invasion of Ukraine, a conflict that has been ongoing for over a year. After discovering this alleged collaboration with Russian companies, DeepCool was expelled from US soil.
Thanks to YouTuber Greg Salazar, we know that DeepCool is still selling products in the United States. How do they do it? They have simply created the brand ShakingTank to continue selling their products.
Ok, but how do you know ShakingTank is actually DeepCool? They just sell the same products with the logo blurred or erased, nothing more. They haven’t really gone out of their way in this regard. Speculating a bit, it wouldn’t be unusual to buy something from ShakingTank and it came with a DeepCool box and logo.
You can see on several heatsinks where the DeepCool logo should be, which is now removed. In addition, the packaging would have darkened the areas where the brand logo should be.
The “affected” products would be the DeepCool AK620 and LS720 heatsinks, which now appear to be renamed ShakingTank AK620 and LS720.
There are two possible explanations for this move, which is more comical than anything else. The first is that DeepCool is changing its name in order to continue selling its products in the United States. Such evasion of sanctions could have serious legal consequences for the brand and its leaders.
Another explanation is that some reseller (or several) has a lot of stock and wants to get rid of it. To get rid of it, they would have created this new brand with the aim of selling all the stock.
This situation, besides being comical, calls into question the efficiency and application of trade sanctions. On the other hand, it leaves consumers with the uncertainty of what will happen to the brand in the US market. In addition, if they have a problem with the products, how to process the guarantee.
As far as we know, DeepCool is sold in Spain without any major problems. We do not know if the sanctions will be replicated in other countries, something that could be possible if the accusations of collaboration with Russian companies are verified. A complex situation that could end in the disappearance of the brand.
