The fact that these alerts are available does not mean that they will reach you if you have not activated them, so the first thing you should check is that you have them enabled on your mobile. In any case, we will tell you if they really work as promised or if they are not yet enabled. There may be people who have received the first test notices, but from that to what warn of real situations it goes a long way
Alerts do not work in all communities
The truth is that, although there is no many warnings, yes they work in our country for several months, although you will discover according to recent events that this is not the case in all of Spain. A new DANA puts us on notice that They are not active in all the autonomous communities. Although they do reach many territories of the country, this limitation exists, and to this is added that the cases are still counted.
The first of the best-known notices is when they alerted about the leak of a gas pipeline in Guadalajara, which also caused traffic interruptions and innumerable incidents, although without personal injury. In Cabanillas del Campo and surroundings they sent them a notice with instructions on what they should do to protect themselves.
A few months ago, in July, it was tested among the population of El Hierro, although it was not a real alert because there was no problem, but to test its operation. It was also done a month before in Vega Baja, Alcorcón and in the different months of this year in other areas, as a test.
In the month of July it has also reached many people in Pirineo and Cinco Villaswhich are areas that at that time were in Orange storm warning. They have notified the camps so that they have evacuation plans and have given them advice on how to act.
During the DANA of this month of September 2023 only notices were sent in Madrid, while Toledo, which was also on red alert, the damage has been more serious for the moment, but no warnings have arrived. We do not know if it is because there has been an error in the system or that they still do not have it enabled at the moment. We can see on social networks how some people have complained about it.
I live in Madrid, but I’m in Toledo and the alert has reached my mobile, not my girlfriend’s from Toledo.
In view of how it turned out Toledo after this meteorological phenomenonthe alerts should have been sent there as well, but they have not:
The mobile alert had to have been made in Toledo. https://t.co/3pEPCTofOx

As we can see, in Spain they are not only available, but they have also been received in more than one case, although they are not available in all the territories of the country, at least for now. To this we must add that there are not as many warnings as in other countries that tend to have many more emergency or dangerous situations.
Considering that exceptions are counted, you probably didn’t receive anything on your phone because you were not in an affected area, and the moment you are, you will receive a message on your phone warning you to protect yourself. That way, you will have to have the alerts activated so that the message reaches you when necessary, even if you have the mobile without sound.
Activate them on your mobile if you have not done so yet
In this way, you can confirm if you have emergency alerts activated, and do it if it is not the case. Once you do, they will notify you on your phone in case you are in an area affected by one of the typical emergencies.
If you have an Android phone:
- go to settings
- Click on Security and emergencies
- Go to Wireless Emergency Alerts
- Confirm in Allow alerts
If you have an iPhone, what you should do is this:
- go to settings
- Click on the Notifications option
- Press on Civil Protection Pre-alerts
And voila, now that they are enabled, something will arrive on your phone when the case occurs in the area where you are at that moment.
